We will cover modulation and demodulationtechniques, performance of modulation in noise, and application of these techniquesto current systems, including radio, TV, satellite, and cellular systems. The analogcommunication systems will be studied first. Then the basic theories for thecommunications are briefly covered, such as random process, estimation anddetection, information theory, and error correct coding. With these theories, currentdigital communication techniques will be investigated. The objectives are to give thestudents overview of communication systems, instruct the basic theorems forcommunications, and illustrate the state-of-art for communication techniques.Required textbook: Simon Haykin, Communication Systems, 4th edition, John Wiley and Sons, Inc.Required software: MATLABRecommended textbooks: - Digital Communications: J. Proakis, Digital Communications- Random Process: G.R. Grimmett and D.R. Stirzaker, Probability and RandomProcesses- Estimation and Detection: H.V.
