SPRING 2004THIRD TEST WEEK OF April 5GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPRING 2004 COURSE: ASB223, Buried Cities and Lost Tribes: New World Sections 1120 INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Linda W. Smith OFFICE PHONE: (623)845-3703 OFFICE: 05-130 OFFICE HOURS: 8:15-8:50MWF, 11:15-12:15TR EMAIL: [email protected] TEXT: Images of the Past, 3rd edition, by Price & Feinman GRADING: A total of 400 points, distributed between 4 tests (100 points each). “A” = 360 points or more, “B” = 320 TO 359, “C” = 280 TO 319, “D” = 240 TO 279. There may be additional short assignments, graded on a “Pass/Fail” basis. EXTRA CREDIT: Additional points may be earned during a class “Jeopardy” game. No other extra credit will be given. DON’T EVEN ASK. ATTENDANCE: Highly recommended!!! Material will be covered in class that is not in the text. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to obtain notes from another class member. I do not loan my notes to anyone, nor repeat the lectures outside of class. Also, while attendance is not a formal part of your grade, it will be recorded. If your grade is borderline, good attendance can push it up to a higher grade. An unexcused/unexplained absence of a week or more may result in my dropping you. WITHDRAW/FAILURE: If you wish to drop, you need to see me or turn in a withdrawal slip. Otherwise, you may receive an “F” for the course. EXAMS: There will be 4 NON-CUMULATIVE tests. ALL tests count, NONE are dropped. Questions may include multiple choice, fill-in, short answer, and essays. Tests are based on lectures, slides, videotapes, discussions, and the text. (If it happens in class or it’s in the book, it’s fair game.) The last exam will be given during finals week, but will cover only the material since the 3rd exam. CHEATING: If cheating is detected at any time, ALL cheaters will receive a score of zero on the exam or assignment. MAKE-UPS: Make-up tests are for cases of illness or family emergency. Oversleeping is not an emergency. Important points about make-ups are: a) You must contact me the day of the test (or before) if you will have to miss it. b) If you do NOT contact me that day, you will lose 5 points for each day you wait. c) Permission to take a make-up is at my discretion, it is not automatically permitted. d) Unless there are exceptional circumstances, no one may take more than one make-up. ACCOMMODATIONS: Please see me if you need special accommodation in order to fully participate in class, such as a note-taker if you are visually or physically disabled, or special test arrangements if you are learning disabled or have extreme test anxiety. PROBLEMS: If you have questions or problems about the course, my presentation of the material, or your grades, please see me. Usually, a short discussion can resolve any problems. CLASSROOM COURTESY: Our classroom is acoustically “live”. Even whispering in the back row carries to the front of the room, which bothers other students and me. Class time is not for private conversations (this includes during videos).
