The packet has been spiral bound and three-hole punched and could be stored in a 2 inch, three-ring binder. Inside the Music Classroom: Teaching the Art with Heart – by Patricia Bourne Get America Singing… Again! (singer’s edition) – a book of 43 songs Get America Singing… Again! Volume 2 (singer’s edition) – a book of 45 songs Admission to and continuation in the Teacher Education program requires that you purchase LiveText. You must present “proof of purchase” to the Certification Office, Black 228. Course description: This course will introduce the elementary education major to methods, materials and skills for implementing music in the elementary classroom. In addition, this course will help prepare students to include music in their classrooms as primary and supportive subject material. Course Objectives: To prepare student to teach music in their classroom by:  Identifying, categorizing, implementing and evaluating a wide variety of musical resources for use in the elementary classroom.  Leading a song or chant that develops skill and confidence in the inclusion of music in classroom activities.  Moving, singing and playing instruments in a manner appropriate for leading children in these activities. To prepare student to substitute teach in the music classroom by:  Comprehending music’s notation system.  Developing a system for managing the learning environment. To prepare student to integrate music in their classroom by:  Developing strategies for team-planning and team-teaching cross-curricular thematic units.  Identifying and adapting children’s literature and music that can be included in cross-curricular teaching.  Identifying, applying and evaluating successful teaching techniques in the presentation of lessons.2MUS 326 (Music in the Classroom) is designed to prepare elementary education candidates to meet the following 2007 Washington State Elementary Education Endorsement Competencies: 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5, 1.1.6, 1.1.7. Students with disabilities who wish to set up academic adjustments in this class should give me a copy of their “Confirmation of Eligibility for Academic Adjustments” from the Disability Support Services Office as soon as possible so we can meet to discuss how the approved adjustments will be implemented in this class. Students with disabilities without this form should contact the Disability Support Services Office, [email protected] or (509)963-2171 immediately. Academic Conduct: The internet is a wonderful resource for teachers, however, for this class you will need to USE YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IDEAS for your lesson plans. Using on-line lesson plans will result in a failing grade on the assignment. The Central Washington University policy on academic dishonesty~ “If you engage in academic dishonesty related to this class, you will receive a failing grade on the test or assignment, and failing grade in the course. Absences impair one’s ability to fully experience the class. If you are unable to attend class, notify me by e-mail and make arrangements with a classmate to obtain notes/handouts for you. You will need to make up any missed assignments and demonstrate that you have gained an understanding of the in-class experiences missed.
