I will also send email through Facebook.com to the group. Search there for “MANA 4321 Spring 2009”. This helps me to know you so I can give you credit for class participation. I strongly suggest that you network with your classmates so you can get information about a missed class from them instead of me. Lastly, exam questions may come from the text, lectures, and anything I email to you. All emails I send will be through the UTA system and Facebook.Text: Global Business Today Sixth Edition, Charles Hill, McGraw Hill Irwin, ISBN: 978-0-07-338139-8. Previous editions will not have updated information. If you choose to use this, you may miss exam questions.Course Overview: This course introduces students to the concepts of managing a multinational corporation. It is highly encouraged that students have a good knowledge of general business so they can understand the differences and problems associated with doing business on a global basis.Student Learning Objectives: On completion of this course the student will be able to:1. Define basic international management terms accurately according to textbook definitions.2. Understand basic differences in cultures around the world.3. Know how to solve problems related to doing business outside of one’s home country.Achieving the Objectives: Students will be required to complete four activities in order to achieve the identified objectives:1. Participate in class discussions of chapters, readings, and lecture material by exhibiting:(a) an understanding and articulate analysis of the information presented.(b) asking questions relevant to the subject material.Students are expected to attend each class session. Again, each student is expected to actively participate in class discussions. Class participation will be evaluated using the following criteria:90% - Excellent participation. Near perfect attendance (1-2 ab.) with frequent and insightful comments80% - Good participation. Good attendance (3-4 ab.) and contributed with relevant comments.70% - Average participation. Poor attendance (5-6 ab.) and infrequent comments.59% - Failing participation. Unsatisfactory attendance (7+ ab.) and no participationAn attendance sheet will be passed out daily for students to sign their initials. I will cross check it with the number in the class. Forging another student’s initials will be subject to disciplinary action! See “Academic Integrity” below.2. Take notes of class lectures.3. Complete 3 examinations. Make-ups will NOT receive curve or additional points earned.4. Complete the assigned project. Project: The project is to take the personality test at http://www.mypersonality.info/personality-types/ and submit a one page, double spaced, typewritten report on how you agree with the assessment which is due by the end of class February 5th. Understand that the test is time tested and as accurate as can be expected toclassify everyone into 16 different types. If you don’t agree with the results, perhaps you should take it again. Equating your career choices seems to have the largest variance so don’t take this part as seriously as the rest. The purpose of this test is to show you that while you are unique; you share commonalities with others in your group and you are very different from others. How this relates to the course is that people from other parts of the world are different as well. Emailing the project is not acceptable. Grades will be 90, 80, 70, 59, and 0 depending on how well the student follows directions below and the quality of writing. A letter grade will be subtracted for each class day the paper is late. At the top of the page, be sure to include YOUR NAME andINTERNATIONAL BUSINESS.Student Learning Outcomes: By successful completion of this course, you should be able to:1. Analyze a global business situations and relate it to course content2. Identify current and potential problems relating to a company’s international operations3. Propose and justify solutions that are realistic, effective, and efficientGrading:Exam I Ch 1-6 30% Exams will be multiple choice and true false. Bring Scantron! Exam II Ch 7-11 30% Fill in Scantron places properly as explained in class. Failure to do this Exam III Ch 12-16 30% will result in lost points.Project 05% No curve will be given on make-up tests or absence following test.Participation 05% See above.Drop PoliciesIt is the student's responsibility to complete the course or withdraw from the course in accordance with University Regulations. Students are strongly encouraged to verify their grade status before dropping a courseafter the first withdrawal date. A student who drops a course after the first withdrawal date may receive an “F” in the course if the student is failing at the time the course is dropped. Final drop date is April 3rd.
