EXS 587 – Advanced Biomechanics Dr. Moran Lab #2: Alternative Digitizing Method If the thought of digitizing several frames in MS Paint is daunting, then feel free to try this alternative method of digitizing. It will take some leg work to get up and going but the digitizing will be much easier (and it will make your class project MUCH easier). DOWNLOAD & INSTALLATION STEPS 1.) Go to the Class website and Click on the DGeeMe link on the right-hand side 2.) Download the March 16, 2006 version of the software to your computer 3.) Once downloaded install the software on your computer. DGeeMe - SETUP INSTRUCTIONS 1.) Double click the DGeeMe icon on your desktop 2.) Start by clicking File > New Sequence 3.) A dialog box will appear – push the New Model button (we will need to make a model of what we did in Lab #2) 4.) Type the Model Name as Lab2 5.) Type in the number 3 as the number of points to be digitized 6.) Click the Next button 7.) Where it says Point 1, Point 2, and Point 3 double-click that text and replace with GT, LE, and LM. These refer to the anatomical landmarks that we used as landmarks. 8.) Click the Next button 9.) Now you will make our 2 segments (thigh, leg). Click the Add button. You should see that Segment #1 is from the GT to the LE. Double click the Segment ? below name and rename this segment Thigh. 10.) Click the Add button again. Now you will need to change the Base Point and Anchor Point. Double click and change the Base Point to R. LE and then change the Anchor Point to R. LM 11.) Click the Next button12.) Choose your calibration method as Default_2D. We will be using our own scaling method from post-processing. 13.) Click the Next button and then the Finish button DGeeMe - DIGITIZING INSTRUCTIONS 1.) OK now you are ready to load your Trial AVI file. Go to Digitzing > Open Video (*.avi) 2.) Select your trial AVI file from computer 3.) When the video image options dialog box comes up click OK 4.) Now you should be ready to start digitizing your markers. You should notice a + on your screen. Place this over the GT marker and click. Next place over the LE marker and click. Next place over the LM marker and click. 5.) After clicking the LM marker it AUTOMATICALLY advances to your next image. This will make life much easier for you! You should notice that the program remembers the last location of each marker so it makes digitizing MUCH faster. 6.) MISSING POINTS – if you have a missing point for a frame, then push the m key and continue digitizing the next point. Take note of the frame and marker that were missing. 7.) If you forget what point you are to de digitizing it will take you on the bottom of the screen what the next point should be! DGeeMe - EXPORTING INSTRUCTIONS TO EXCEL 1.) OK now you need to export your digitized coordinates out of the program. This is easy. Click File > Export > Digitzed Points 2.) Select a filename to save the points as 3.) Check the box next to each marker (GT, LE, LM) so that their data will be saved. Click OK4.) Now open a NEW Excel file and click File > Open 5.) A dialog box will appear. Change the File Type option on bottom to All Files and select the data text file that you just saved from DGeeMe 6.) A dialog box will appear – click Finish and your data is in!!! 7.) Copy and paste this information into the appropriate cells in the Lab #2 Excel file. SINCE THIS IS A DIFFERENT METHOD YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE CALIBRATION FROM MS PAINT. If you choose this method then use the following points in your lab for Part 2 II: Left Hand Side: (213, 314) Right Hand Side: (498,
