NOTES Module 17 Roadway Plan Production In this module, you learn how to work with Roadway Plan Production tools in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Objectives After completing this module, You will be able to:  Create view frames in a view frame group.  Create all sheets in the current drawing.  Create all sheets in a new drawing.  Create all sheets in individual drawings.  Use the AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager.AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum NOTES 17-2 Notes to Instructor Data for this module resides in the \AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum\Module 17 - Roadway Plan Production\ folder. Exercises The following exercises are provided in step-by-step format. Open the AutoCAD Civil 3D program prior to beginning the lesson by double-clicking the Civil 3D icon on the desktop. For those working in the imperial system use the drawing files beginning with an I. Those working in the metric system should use the drawing files beginning with an M. You are provided with a drawing for each exercise in the lesson. The exercises in this module are as follows: 1. Create View Frames in a View Frame Group 2. Create All Sheets in the Current Drawing 3. Create All Sheets in a New Drawing 4. Create All Sheets in Individual Drawings 5. Use the AutoCAD Sheet Set ManagerModule 17 - Roadway Plan Production NOTES 17-3 Roadway Plan Production In this module, you learn how to use the Plan Production feature in AutoCAD Civil 3D to create plan and profile contract sheets. Creating plan and profile sheets in Civil 3D involves the following steps:  Create the view frames.  Create the sheets. View frames are model space objects that show the area of the horizontal alignment that will be represented in each sheet. To create view frames, you choose a drawing template (DWT) with paper space layout definitions containing scaled viewports and the sheet borders. The first step is to select the drawing template (DWT).AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum NOTES 17-4 After you select the drawing template, you then select the layout definition. Civil 3D then prompts you for a number of other parameters that control the creation of the view frames and match lines. View frames are organized in a view frame group. The view frame style and view frame label style control the display and annotation of the view frames in model space. The match line style and match line label style control the display and annotation of the match lines in model space. You can use grips to modify the position of the view frames in model space before creating the sheets. After you have created the view frames, the next step is to create the sheets. When you create the sheets, you are presented with the following options:  Create all sheets on layouts in the current drawing.  Create sheets on layouts in a new drawing.  Create sheets on layouts on individual drawings.Module 17 - Roadway Plan Production NOTES 17-5 When you create the sheets and layouts in the current drawing, Civil 3D creates a layout for each sheet in the view frame group. When you create the sheets and layouts in a new drawing, Civil 3D creates a layout for each sheet in the view frame group and uses AutoCAD external references and Civil 3D reference objects to reference the data in the original drawing. This allows you to create a production drawing that is dynamically linked to the objects in a design drawing. Graphical data is referenced with AutoCAD external references. Object data is referenced with Civil 3D reference objects. A Civil 3D reference object is created in one drawing and references the object data that resides in another drawing. AutoCAD external references are used to share graphical data and Civil 3D reference objects are used to share object data. You can also create the sheets and layouts in individual drawings.AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum NOTES 17-6 In this circumstance, AutoCAD external references and Civil 3D references objects are also used. AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager is the interface that is used to manage the created sheets. Sheet sets are defined and stored in a sheet set (DST) file that indicates where the sheets are located. Sheet Set Manager can also be used to automate the population of relevant data in a title block such as date and drawing number.Module 17 - Roadway Plan Production NOTES 17-7AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum NOTES 17-8 Key Terms External Reference An AutoCAD function used to share the graphical contents of one or more drawings with other drawings. Layout Used to represent a single sheet in a contract drawing set. The layout is a tab that contains a title block and viewport(s), and has details of the associated printer and paper size. Match Line A line drawn in plan view that indicates the separation between adjacent plan and profile sheets. The position of the match line is based on the length of profile alignment that will fit in the viewport. Match Line Label Style Controls the display of the match line label. Match Line Style Controls the display of the match line. Reference Object A Civil 3D function used to share Civil 3D object data residing in one or more other drawings. Sheet Set Manager An AutoCAD utility used for the creation and management of individual sheets within a drawing set. View Frame A model space object that shows the plan view portion of the model that will be displayed in a plan sheet or a plan and profile sheet. View Frame Label Style Controls the display of the view frame label. View Frame Style Controls the display of the view frame. View Frame Group A collection in Prospector of view frames for an alignment.Module 17 - Roadway Plan Production NOTES 17-9 EXERCISE 1: CREATE VIEW FRAMES IN A VIEW FRAME GROUP In this exercise, you use the Plan Production tools to create view frames. View frames are created in model space along the horizontal alignment and show the locations in plan view that will be displayed in the plan and profile sheets. A drawing template with layout definitions is used to determine the size of the view frames. The viewport size and scale on the layout is used to determine the size of the view frames. The layout definition in the drawing template also contains the sheet border that will be used when the sheets are created. Civil 3D creates view frames and match lines and organizes them in a view frame group on the Prospector tab of the
