E-MAIL: [email protected] III. CLASS MEETINGS: TR 3:30-4:45 PM; LOCATION: English Building 274 IV. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: SPAN 4434: Topics in Language, Literature, and Culture. Prerequisite: SPAN 3304 or SPAN 3305. An exploration of a period, movement or genre in literature, a topic in culture or language related issue. Topics are chosen for their significance and impact on Hispanic cultures. Course taught in Spanish. V. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The aim of this course is to introduce students of Spanish to some of the most relevant novels that have been adapted for the screen in order to closely analyze, by comparing and contrasting, how a literary text is transferred to a filmic one. The course also emphasizes close readings of texts by providing the tools for interpreting each medium. Texts for this class have been chosen for their relevance in studying Spanish language, literature, and culture. VI. CAVEAT SPECTATOR: The films and reading materials used in this course are part of the current curriculum on representations of Hispanic culture on film. However, they may contain images, information, ideas, etc. that may be offensive to your personal beliefs or taste. The materials are intended for mature audiences ONLY.
