Design Issues Team 1 – Body Temperature Regulation Jacket for Quadriplegic Wearer – Phase IIRachelle Bouserhal Jarred Davis Merav Nahoom Christa PlineJawad ZaheerLimited temperature regulation range A limiting factor of the temperature regulation jacket is the temperature range of the thermoelectric device. The input voltage and current, ambient temperature difference, and choice of heatsink are, in turn, all limiting factors to the thermoelectric device. Once these have been optimized there is still a set range of temperatures that can be reached by the module. The efficiency of the thermoelectric device is measured by comparing the amount of heat pumped divided by the amount of supplied electrical power; this is called the coefficient of performance. For single stage thermoelectric devices the coefficient of performance is generally between .3 and .7. This limits the temperature differences that the module can reach. These limitation not only affect the maximum and minimum temperature that the system can reach but also the amount of time it takes to get to these temperatures. More power is required to speed up the process. With power being another limiting factor a compromise must be struck, hence limiting speed and temperature difference available to the
