We graph them, find their inverse functions, and use them to solve triangles. Theyalso find use in coordinate geometry via polar coordinates, which are connected to the complexnumbers and polynomials. After looking at these connections, we will learn about conic sections, systems of equations, and sequences & series.Materials needed: You will need the 8th edition of Precalculus by Sullivan, and a scientificcalculator.Prerequisites: I expect you to know all of the material from the appendices of the textbook andchapters 1 through 5 of the textbook, excluding sections A.7, 4.5 and 4.6. In particular: you shouldknow polynomial long division, completing the square of a quadratic, and logarithms.Academic Honesty: You should not violate the University’s policy on student conduct. Thismeans (among other things) that cheating on exams and copying homework is grounds for a failinggrade.Time commitment: The rule of thumb is that you should work two hours outside of class forevery hours spent in class. This class meets four hours per week, therefore you should expect towork on this class eight hours per week. Skipping class is considered unwise.Grading overview: Final grades will be given on a scale no worse than the one below (that is:gradelines may be lowered but they will not be raised).90 % A80 % B70 % C60 % D1Your grade for the class will be computed as follows:• 10% from quizzes• 10% from homework• 15% from exam 1• 15% from exam 2• 15% from exam 3• 35% from the final examQuizzes: There will be 15 quizzes, none announced in advance. They will consist of one to twoproblems and be worth 2 points. We will drop the worst 5 quizzes. No make-ups will be given.Homework: There will be weekly homework due, which is to be turned in at the beginning ofthe class. Each section will be worth 5 points. We will drop your worst 5 sections. Late homeworkwill not be accepted.Exams: There will be three in-class one hour exams on October 1, November 5, and December3. Non-graphing calculators will be allowed. Make-up exams must be taken before the scheduleddate unless an extraordinary circumstance arises.Final exam: The final exam will be given on December 16 from 1:30PM to 4:30PM at a locationto be announced. Non-graphing calculators will be allowed. This exam is comprehensive.Attendence: You are not graded on attendence. However, the people who skip class regularlyoften fail the
