PSY 410 – HISTORY & SYSTEMSTerm PaperThe following written assignment is intended to help you learn more about the life of an importantfigure in the history of psychology, past or present. The assignment involves the following steps: 1. Select a psychologist to research2. Find out the answers to the questions below for your chosen psychologist3. Write a paper answering the questions related to the person you selectedBe concise, specific, and to the point. There is no need to write more than is necessary to answer each question. You should use the textbook, the internet (e.g., Wikipedia and other sources) and the relevant psychology databases (PsychInfo) and other textbooks to find out the information you need about the person you have selected. If you get stumped and cannot find answers, please visit the Reference Librarian, Christy Stevens, at the Cal Poly library and she will help you search.Your grade will be based upon how thoroughly you look for the answers to the questions about your selected psychologist’s life and career. The work of a historian is rarely easy and those studying history must be persistent and even ingenious in finding answers to their questions. Pretend you are Hothersall or Goodwin and wish to write about your person for a future revision of a History of Psychology textbook. Format is as follows: (1) double space throughout; (2) number each question but do not repeat the question itself; (3) attach a vita or resume for your psychologist if available; (4) attach a list ofyour sources as applicable and cite your sources in your paper using APA format.Questions 1. What did your psychologist contribute in terms of knowledge or new ideas to the field of psychology? What was his or her area of study, what were his or her key findings ormajor papers (you may refer to a list included as part of the vita below). Why is this person important to the field?2. What theoretical perspective did your psychologist hold? How would you classify him or her in terms of subfield of psychology, viewpoint or position on relevant controversies in the field? What were his or her distinguishing opinions or views?3. Photocopy, print out or assemble (create) a vita detailing the education and accomplishments of your psychologist. You can use my own vita on my webpage as a model of the format for an academic resume. Some psychologists will already have one on their own webpage. For others, you must create one. Put in as much information as you can find. Note when information was unavailable. If you psychologist had hundreds of publications you do not have to list them all. You can summarize the total number of report the main ones instead. Summarize other lengthy information, such as presentations and talks, to keep the vita to no more than 4-10 pages.4. Create an academic tree for your chosen person (see the Powerpoint Intro file for anexample of mine). Show your psychologist’s immediate mentors and their doctoral advisors as far back as you can trace them. Also list any students who trained under this person (only the students who later became famous or were important to psychology, not every single one).5. What obstacles did your psychologist have to overcome in his or her life? What setbacks did he or she encounter?6. What do you admire about your psychologist? What do you disagree with or disapprove of in his or her life? What is your attitude toward the person you have researched? What would you say if someone asked you what your psychologist was like as a person?7. Describe any difficulties you had in locating resources and finding information about this person. What does that suggest about their place in history or importance to the field? How difficult was it for you to complete this assignment? Where or how did youfind the best
