Research DatabasesMcCloskey/Library Instruction—Revised July 26, 2010 RReesseeaarrcchh DDaattaabbaasseess The following databases are paid for by either Nicolet or by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Although some are indicated as coming through the DPI, most are identified with “through Badgerlink” next to the title. The picture of the lock means that the database is accessible off-campus through the Proxy Server. Other databases via Badgerlink or DPI may only be accessible off-campus only if one resides in the state of Wisconsin and does not use Verizon as a service provider (Verison is a nationwide ISP and is unable to provide network data specific to Wisconsin). These databases are accessible through the Research Databases page on the Library Home Page. Just click on the letter of the alphabet that the database falls under and select the database from the list. -A- A to Z Maps Online - via World Trade Press The worlds largest subscription-based database of proprietary, royalty-free world, continent, country, and state maps. Included in the 4,000+ maps are: political maps, physical maps, outline maps, population maps, precipitation maps, climate maps, and other thematic maps. New maps are added to the collection every month. Academic Search Premier - via EbscoHost through Badgerlink This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,700 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Access Newspaper Archive - via Newspaper Archive through Badgerlink Newspaper ARCHIVE contains millions of searchable newspaper pages, dating as far back as the 1700s, presented in a PDF format that preserves the original context and format of content. Alt HealthWatch - via EbscoHost through Badgerlink This database focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990. Ancestry Library Edition - via Ancestry.com Search Genealogical information including: census, military, birth, marriage and death records. ARTstor ARTstor is a digital library of nearly one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences with a set of tools to view, present, and manage images for research and pedagogical purposes. Associates Programs Source Plus - via EbscoHost Associates Programs Source Plus contains more than 1,700 full text journals as well as more than 200 full text books. This database is designed specifically for the research needs of two-year colleges, and provides comprehensive coverage of subjects as wide-ranging as: alcohol drug abuse counseling, audiology, biotechnology, computer data processing, CAD, cosmetology, electrical technology, fashion design, forensics, graphic arts, health information technology, interior design, law enforcement criminal justice, paralegal studies, robotics, travel tourism, veterinary assisting, and dozens more equally varied areas of study.Richard J.
