Homework & Quizzes : There will be a quiz every other day in substitution for collected homework. The quizzes will be drawn directly from the assigned homework.Exams: There will be 2 midterm exams given during this summer session. These exams will involve a mix of mechanical skillsand conceptual reasoning. The best possible preparation for the exams is regular attendance and completion of assignedhomework. These exams are to be completed outside of regular class time in the Mathematics Department Testing Center(http://math.asu.edu/fym/tstcenter.html) in PSA 21 (basement). To be admitted to the Testing Center each student must have avalid ASU Sun Card. The testing center is open 8:00 a.m. - 3:28 p.m. M-F. Make sure you arrive before 3:28 p.m. TheTesting Center will not allow for late entry. Arrival before the door closes allows the student one hour and twenty-five minutes tocomplete the test. Students should complete exams as early as possible during the allotted time frame. The instructor has theright to regard finding suspicious material in your calculator memory as cheating.Cell Phones must be turned OFF (not silent) during the exam. They must be put away. Answering, accessing or using itsphotography features during the exam is grounds for failure and potential Academic Dishonesty procedures.All other electronic devices, including (but not limited to) Blackberrys, Ipods, etc, must be turned off and placed away during yourexam.Your calculator cover must be put away during the exam. Makeup Tests: Will be given at the discretion of the instructor and only in the case of verified medical or other emergency. Theinstructor must be notified before the exam is given. Email me or call me before the exam. Tutoring: The math department no longer tutors MAT 265. However, there is tutoring available at Engineering Tutor Center: Location: ECF 102. Hours: to be announced (about 9 – 2 p.m. daily) Graphing Calculator: A graphing calculator is required for this course. If you already have a graphing calculator, you may use it.Examples of highly recommended models are the TI 83/84 or Casio 9850GB Plus. Calculators that do symbolic algebra, such at the Casio FX2, Casio 9970Gs,TI-89,TI-92, or TI-nspire (CAS) cannot be used in class or during an exam.Attendance: Attendance will be taken on a regular basis as studies have shown that students that attend class regularly are more likely to complete their courses successfully.- For Summer I, classes that meet five days a week, the maximum number of allowed absences is three (3). - Students who exceed the maximum number of absences will receive a grade of EN.Cell Phone/Technology/Courtesy Policy: Upon entering class all cell phones, pagers, PDAs, iPods and any other similartechnical devices need to be turned off. If there is a true emergency call or page you are expecting, let me know before class. Youwill forfeit your attendance points if your cell phone or pager goes off during class. Furthermore, text messaging during class timewill not be tolerated. The instructor will take appropriate action if you send or receive text messages during class. Also, please talkcourteously and respectfully during class. Profanity, swearing, vulgarity, and similar comments are inappropriate.Note: This syllabus is tentative and should not be considered definitive.
