Course Prerequisites: Admission to teacher education programCourse DescriptionThe purpose of this course is to provide preservice teachers with experience and knowledge necessary to develop and evaluate curriculum for secondary students and materials that meet state and national standards and other educational goals. Attendance: Attendance to all class meetings is required. Students missing more than 1 class will not be eligible to earn an “A”. Students missing more than 2 classes will not be eligible to earn a “B”. Students missing more than 3 classes will not be eligible to earn a “C”. Students are expected to be prepared during class. Attendance and classroom participation will be a SIGNIFICANT factor in determining the student’s final grade for the class. If you must be absent, arrange for another student to pick up handouts for you. You are responsible for getting class notes, announcements, and handouts from another student.2. Participation: Participation in group discussions and presentations makes up a large portion of your grade and cannot be made up. You must be present on the assigned day to receive credit.3. Assignments: Assignments submitted as requirements for another classshould not be submitted for this class. All assignments should be original work of students completed for this class. Students are expectedto turn in assignments on time. Any assignment turned in late will be lowered one letter grade per business day; no credit will be given for assignments turned in more than a week late. All assignments must be typed or word-processed (with the exception of those written in class). Please make a hard or electronic copy of any submitted assignment.4. Professionalism: As members of a community of professionals-in-training, you should take responsibility for your participation in the learning activities and demonstrate the following: Positive Attitude/ non-judgmentalOpen-mindedness/ flexibilityReceptive to constructive criticismCollaborative/ cooperativeNo Cell Phones in Class5. Any form of academic dishonesty obviously cannot be knowingly permitted in a university course. Academic dishonesty includesplagiarism, cheating, fabrication or fraud. If an individual engages in any one of these activities, the instructor has the right to apply the policy on academic dishonesty in the NAU Students Handbook. This may result in some type of penalty ranging from extra course work to a failing grade in the course. Course Assignments: ECI 322A. Portfolio Assignments: (360) Each student will develop an electronic professional portfolio using Task Stream. This will be an ongoing process throughout your college career. You will need to include: 1. School Research: You will need to do web research on Sedona Red Rock High Schooland a search for a school you would be interested in applying to. Find the school’s report card; write a summary about the school, and why you would like to teach at this school. (10)2. Professional Growth: Each week we will focus on a disposition for professional growthas a teacher. You will fill out a reflection sheet each week and include them in your portfolio. (14 @ 5 points each=70 points)3. Philosophy of Education: The philosophy should summarize succinctly your beliefs about education. It should be no longer than one single-spaced and word-processed and must include at least one reference that supports your philosophy. (10)4. Sample Scope and Sequence: You will align the scope and sequence of a SRRH coursewith the Arizona state standards. Signature Assignment (20). 5. Trends Abstract: You will abstract two articles that feature trends in education for your particular discipline. The abstract format will be covered in detail in class. (10)6. Trends Paper: Your assignment is to research and report on current and predicted futuretrends in your subject area. The paper will be the Signature Assignment for this class to be placed in Task Stream Electronic
