CMSC 723 / LING 645: Intro to Computational LinguisticsNewsgroup Management, Deadlines, and Other Policy DecisionsPolicy Decisions (continued)Midterm ResultsOctober 27, 2004Prof. Bonnie J. DorrDr. Christof MonzTA: Adam LeeCMSC 723 / LING 645: Intro to Computational LinguisticsNewsgroup Management, Deadlines, and Other Policy DecisionsNewsgroups are managed by the TA, not instructors.–The TA will forward emails to instructors that are not resolvable within 48 hours.–For issues not appropriate to newsgroup, email the instructors.–For issues on which instructors’ confirmation is needed, be sure to CC the professorsResponse time: Expect at least a one-day turnaround (two days on weekends) for newsgroup postings and email requests—not an immediate/real-time response!–Discussions on the newsgroup can be held at any time, but instructors and TA cannot be expected to be on 24 hour call.Questions to instructors before midterm, assignment and project: Only up until 24 hours before the actual time of the exam! Not the night before or morning of the exam.Policy Decisions (continued)Implication: You MUST ask questions well in advance of assignment/project/exam deadlines.–Tip: For the final, do the worksheet well in advance to leave time for inevitable questions you might have. Contact us well in advance of the exam for residual worksheet questions. (We will make sure we get the worksheet to you much earlier next time.)–We will not extend the 24-7 assistance that we provided for the midterm again. You’ve been given fair warning for the final.Regrades for assignments, projects, exams: Must submit a formal letter to Christof and Adam within one week of receipt of the grade. Put “regrade” in subject line.–If you are not sure whether you want a regrade, ask questions first and then decide if you need to submit a formal regrade.–Don’t put “regrade” in subject line for informal inquiries.Midterm Results 31 exam takersStats:– MEAN = 80.7– MED = 84– MAX = 95– MIN = 51A/B/C Grouping:–86-95: 15–70-84: 12–51-64:
