Journal of Experimental Psychology, 81, 174-176.Goal:The effect of congruent and incongruent responses when action and responses contradict.Method:Subjects64 (all right-handed)Task:Move a control handle to either the right or the left depending on the ear in which the tone is presented.Stimuli:a sequence of 50 tones which were given one by one through earphones to either a left (25 tones) or right ear (25 tones) of the subject.Procedure:2 blocks (50 trials/block).Block 1:Ss heard 50 tones one by one either to their right or left ears, and were asked to move the handle opposite to the side in which the tone was presented. For example, when a tone was presented in the right ear, then Ss were supposed to move the handle to the left (and vice versa).Block 2:The procedure was the same in Block 1, but this time Ss were instructed to move the handle toward the side in which the tone was presented. For example, when a tone was presented in the right ear, then Ss were supposed to move the handle toward the right side.ResultsRT – incongruent response > RT – congruent response01/14/19, 3:15 PM 1/2Simon, J.
