Study Guide Midterm 101The midterm will consist of four parts, a map, a chronology, identifications and anessay. The map questions originate from maps in the text, from the assigned reading, andfrom issues illustrated on a map in class. The chronology will ask you place a series of five different events in the order they occurred. The concepts mentioned in the chronology will be main concepts from lecture and/or the text.The identifications are drawn exclusively from the list of possible biography topics you will find on pages three and four of the syllabus. Each identification asks you to summarize who or what this person/event/thing was, as well as explain its significance.Below are suggested areas of study to assist in preparation for the essay portion ofthe midterm.What were some of the major influences in the lives of people in the Ancient NearEast? How did these influences shape their daily lives? What were some of the notable achievements of this period? Consider politics, religion, education, military, economics and social structure.What was the religion of Egypt like? How did the religion affect the lives of people in different social classes? (rich, middle class, poor, slave) What are some of the great concepts from the ancient Egyptians? How did poleis differ? Ancient Greece was a time and place of many intellectual creations. Who or what were some of the most significant and why? Who are some of the great philosophers, artists and dramatists of the period? How did the “Golden Age” come to an end? What is the legacy of the Greek culture to today?Why did Macedonia emerge as a powerful nation at the conclusion of the Greek Golden age?
