MIS 115 Spring 2002 Network Presentation 30 pts DRAFT MIS 140 Spring 2003 Instructor Mesher To be Presented the Week of May 12th 2003 The goal of the presentation assignment is to provide students with a culminating experience for this course This is meant to be a hands on interactive assignment in which the study groups will investigate the status of network structure and operations in a real life setting 1 Selecting the Organization In order to avoid last minute rush on completing the assignment You will be asked to select and have received permission to study the network in an organization by the end of the second week in November 14th November 18th for Section 6 2 Deliverables The presentation will be made as a PowerPoint slide presentation of roughly 4 6 slides A handout will also be given out to accompany the presentation Slideshows are to be loaded before class in order to ensure efficient use of class time 3 Presentation Outline The following is a suggested list of topics for your presentation 5 8 slides 1 Organizational Overview 1 bullet slide and or photo Make sure to describe the operational needs of the company What do they use their network for 2 Network Description 1 or 2 slides Remember that the network is a solution to the above question List summarize Hardware Software Networking Equipment Staff Costs 3 Network Diagram 1 slide 2 if WAN and LAN are presented separately Remember that the network diagram you present may have to be modified simplified for the presentation There is an art to this Try to convey as much information about the network as possible while still making the diagram easy to understand 4 Security and Disaster Recovery 1 or 2 slides What techniques are in use to deal with the failure of all or part of the network as well as to prevent unauthorized use of the network 5 Upgrade Plans and or Critical Analysis of the Network 1 slide What are their plans for the future Do you have any comments on how to improve the network Other issues can be covered but to ensure that you receive full credit for completing the assignment please make sure to discuss any deviations from the above list with me if at all possible In order to make sure that there is plenty of time for all presentations please do not use more than 8 PowerPoint slides for your presentation 4 Grading Your grade will be based on a combination of factors including Quality of the presentation is the material easy to understand Are the slides well written Thoroughness of the presentation Has the presentation covered all relevant topics well MIS 115 Presentation skills Make sure to speak clearly and to the class Spring 2002
