ECE 3 Positive Child Guidance Outside Assignment #2 Assessing a Challenging Behavior Outside Assignment #2 will give you an opportunity to focus on a particular behavior in a real or imaginary child. You may use a child of any age under 18. The Assignment has three parts. Follow the Outline below. Follow the guidelines for written assignments included in your First Day Information. The paper will be about 4 pages plus the Cover Page.. The following page will be a COVER PAGE for your Outside Assignment #1. Part I: Use the following page for this part of the assignment. You will have to save that page to your computer and then type in the information requested. Part II: (At least One Page) Begin your paper by describing the child. Refer to your Cover Page. Do not use real names. If you are making up a child explain that clearly. First give a general description of the child. Include gender, age, physical appearance, life situation, and make an educated guess in regard to temperament. Then, more specifically, use information from Lecture and text to describe his or her development across the Three Domains. Part II: (About Two Pages) Specify the behavior upon which you are focusing. Then, discuss the behavior and the environment citing examples from each of the following text and lecture topics: Three Messages often heard in Challenging Behavior….page 65 Who, What, When, Why………………………beginning on page 70 Positive Guidance and Discipline Strategies…beginning on page 80 and continuing through page 100 If you have considered all of the other causes, and believe that the behavior you are observing should be viewed as aggression, refer to Chapter 9. If you are viewing the behavior as aggression, then include the following areas in your discussion. Forms of Aggression……….beginning on page 226 Strategies for Guiding Aggressive Children …beginning on page 239 Part III: (One Page) This is the best part! Make a plan! This plan should include as many of the techniques—tools/balloons from Chapter 4 page 81, and/or Chapter 9, as you think speak to the behavior you are working with.
