(3-0). Linear equations and applications, systems of linearequations, matrix algebra and applications, linear programming (graphical method), probability and applica-tions, statistics. Prerequisites: High school algebra I and II and geometry. Credit will not be given for morethan one of MATH 141 and 166.Learning Objectives:• Formulate linear models for various applications. (1.3-1.5)• Understand matrices and their applications, including solving systems of linear equations. (2.1-2.6)• Construct linear programming problems for various applications and solve using graphical techniques.(3.1-3.3)• Understand and apply the rules of sets and Venn diagrams. (6.1-6.2)• Understand the principles of probability and counting and apply these concepts to a variety of problems.(6.3-6.4, 7.1-7.6)• Identify types of random variables and calculate probabilities and statistics for random variables. (8.1-8.6)• Apply the concepts of finance to real-world situations. NOTE: It is considered CHEATING to have notes, formulas, or programs in your calculatorother than the ones I give you to use. Consequences for cheating will be severe.Highly Suggested Homework: Your daily highly suggested homework will prepare you for your computerhomework, daily grades, and exams, but will not be turned in for a grade. It is crucial that you work theseproblems. A list of highly suggested homework problems and streaming video solutions can be found on myweb-site.Computer Homework: There will be a graded computer homework assignment for each section we coverin-class. These assignments will be taken on the WebAssign system. For more information and to login pleasego to http://www.math.tamu.edu/courses/eHomeworkDaily Grades: Your overall daily grade will consist of Quizzes and Take-Home Assignments. Quizzes will begiven in class. Quizzes may or may not be announced so it is imperative that you keep up with your suggestedhomework. You are allowed to work together on take-home assignments but copying will NOT be tolerated.Exams: There will be three in-class exams. You must bring your Student ID to each exam. Calculators willbe checked during or before each exam. If there are any programs on your calculator which I did not give you,the occurence will be considered as scholastic dishonesty. The tentative exam schedule is as follows:Exam 1 Wednesday, 21/September/2011Exam 2 Wednesday, 19/October/2011Exam 3 Wednesday, 16/November/2011Final Exam: The final exam will be comprehensive and will consist of multiple choice problems only.
