The Discussion Board is a communication medium for posting and responding to messages. This feature is designed for asynchronous use; meaning users are not present at the same time to converse on-line. An advantage of the DiscussionBoard is that conversations are logged and organized. Conversations are grouped in threads that contain a main posting and all related replies.1. Log on to http://myasucourses.asu.edu and click on your course. Go to theControl Panel by clicking on the Control Panel button.2. Click on the Discussion Boards link. 3. Click the Add Forum button.ASU 101: The ASU Experience Page 24. Type in the Title and Description for this forum in the text areas provided.For ASU 101, sample title and descriptions are provided in the Instructor Guide for each module. 5. In the following Forum Settings check boxes:- Uncheck “Allow anonymous posts”- Uncheck “Allow author to edit message after posting”- Uncheck “Allow author to remove own messages”- Check “Allow file attachments”- Check “Allow new threads” (messages)6. Click on the forum's name link to open the forum.4. To start the discussion board thread, click the Add New Thread button.5. Enter the subject and message in the text areas provided. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.7. Click on the link of the Thread's subject to read and reply to the posting.8. Click the Reply button to type a response to another person’s posting. Enter a subject and message and click the Submit button when you are done.ASU 101: The ASU Experience Page 5Download and Grade AssignmentsThis tutorial will show you how to collect and download student assignments that have been submitted online. When Instructors add an Assignment to a Content area, Blackboard automatically adds a corresponding item to the online gradebook. After students complete the assignment and send it back to the instructor, the instructor uses the gradebook to view, download, and submit grades for an assignment.1. Log on to http://myasucourses.asu.edu and click on your course. Go to theControl Panel by clicking on the Control Panel button.2. In the Assessment area, click on the Gradebook link. 3. In the online gradebook, locate the column that contains the student assignments you want to view. Click the hyperlinked name of the assignment at the top of the column. 4. In the Item Options page, click Item Download.ASU 101: The ASU Experience Page 65. In the Download Assignment page, check the checkbox next to the student name(s) and click Submit. NOTE: To download all of the available files, you can also click the Check All link at the top of the table. 6. Click the Download Assignments Now link to download the zip file to your computer. 7. Click OK to return to the Item Options page. 8. On your computer, locate and double-click the zip file that contains the student assignments. This will unzip the files and you can then review each of them one at a time. ASU 101: The ASU Experience Page 7Enter Student Grades for AssignmentsThis tutorial will show you how to enter student grades for an assignment in the online gradebook. 1. Log on to http://myasucourses.asu.edu and click on your course. Go to theControl Panel by clicking on the Control Panel button.2. In the Assessment area, click on the Gradebook link. 3. In the online gradebook, locate the column that contains the assignments for which you want to submit grades. Click the hyperlinked name of the assignment at the top of the column. 4. In the Item Options page, click the Item Grade List link to enter grades forall students at one time.5. Next to each student name, enter the grade in the Grade column. 6. Click Submit to submit the grades you entered.7. Click OK to return to the gradebook.ASU 101: The ASU Experience Page 8If you prefer, you can also view and grade each student’s assignment one-by-one. 1. In the Control Panel, click the Gradebook link. 2. In the gradebook, click the exclamation mark (!) that appears next to a student’s name in the appropriate assignment column. 3. Click the View button to view the assignment details. 4. In the Grade Assignment page, you can download and grade the student’sassignment files. Click the hyperlinked name of a file to open the file in your browser or right-click the file name and select “Save File As” to save the file to your computer.
