Quick Guide to Resources in International Environmental Economics Library Basics Two library catalogs are Pathfinder and Melvyl. Pathfinder is the library catalog for the main library and selected branch libraries on the Berkeley Campus. Melvyl is the library catalog for the entire UC system. To search for books you want, try a variety of keyword, title and subject searches. To borrow books from other libraries see the library page on interlibrary services: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/services/borrowing_other.html To connect to Berkeley databases from off campus you need to configure your Internet browser to use the library proxy server. See http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Help/connecting_off_campus.html for details. Databases – Cambridge Scientific Abstracts There is no one database for environmental economics and/or policy. Some databases can be searched simultaneously through the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts portal. To get there go to the Electronic Resources Finder page here: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/find/types/electronic_resources.html Select “political science” under “subjects a-z” and choose Worldwide Political Science Abstracts. From there you get access to a large suite of databases that can be searched all at once. These include the following: • PAIS International – Public Policy and International Affairs. Includes many primary sources. • Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management – focus is on the sciences but has some policy and economics related articles • IBSS: International Bibliography of the Social Sciences – broad interdisciplinary database covering many topics. • Worldwide Political Science Abstracts – database on most aspects of international political economy • Sociological Abstracts – Articles, books, chapters, proceedings on all aspects of Sociology. Other Databases In addition, there are several other databases in economics and international development that may be useful. Go to the Electronic Resource Finder and search by title: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/find/types/electronic_resources.html • Econlit – Most comprehensive scholarly database on economics. The database has a good number of articles on environmental economics and policy. • Geography – Includes among other things the database “international development abstracts”. • Agricola –records for documents acquired by the National Agricultural Library of the U.S. Department of Agriculture; focus is on US Agriculture and policy. • JSTOR – Full-text database of core journals in several fields. The best of the best. • IDEAS – One of my personal favorites. Contains articles and working papers in all areas of economics. http://ideas.repec.org/ (Not listed on library web site).Statistical Databases Comprehensive page on international statistics is at the following site.. Some of the most useful are listed below: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/doemoff/govinfo/intl/gov_intlstats.html • World Development Indicators.
