Be sure to visit it often as it will be updated during the semester. Textbook(s), Materials: Required: PreCalculus, Seventh Edition by Ron Larson and Robert Hostetler, Houghton Mifflin Company. WebAssign: Students will use WebAssign for homework. The access code is part of the cost of a new textbook at the UTEP bookstore. Enhanced WebAssign (EWA) Pricing via www.webassign.net is $35 with credit card for Enhanced content for the life of the edition.2Course Objectives (Learning Outcomes): Students are expected to have a clear understanding of the ideas of Precalculus as a solid foundation for subsequent courses in mathematics and other disciplines as well as for direct application to real life situations. The content of the entire course covers topics from basic mathematics and develop them using practical and theoretical tools, building applications and making a strong support for Calculus classes. A student passing MATH1508 Precalculus course will be able to work with the concepts of functions (functions in general, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomial and rational functions, trigonometric functions, etc), to solve a system of linear and non-linear equations and inequalities, to make basic operations with matrices, to apply mathematical induction method, to work with trigonometric functions and their properties, and to apply in problems related to other branches of Science: Calculus, Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Statistics, etc. Course Activities/Assignments: You will find all homework on WebAssign. Please try to use Mozilla Firefox, , since WebAssign works best with this browser. Your user name is your nine-digit UTEP student ID, input utep for institution and your initial password is your student ID, please make sure you change it once you log in for the first time. And add your UTEP email too. Assessment of Course Objectives: Attendance in class(both lectures and labs) will count for 10% of your grade. Homework will count 20% of your grade. There will be quizzes and in-class work that will count 20% of your grade. At the end of Time period 1, you will take an Exit Exam. You must attain a score of 60% or better on the Exit Exam. The Exit Exam will count for 50% of your overall grade. Grading Policy: Your grade for this Module will be: 50% Exit Exam (grade must be greater than or equal to 60%) 20% Quiz and in-class work Average 20% WebAssign Homework Average 10% Attendance Make-up Policy: No make up exams will be allowed except with proper documentation, i.e. doctor’s note, hospital’s note, or UTEP excused absence document. Homework is due on specified due dates, no exceptions. Attendance Policy: Students are strongly recommended to attend all classes meetings. Attendance will be checked.3Academic Integrity Policy: Cheating on a Test or Quiz must be dealt with in accordance with University regulations. This means automatic referral to and adjudication by the Dean of Students. During a Test or Quiz, you must present yourself in a manner that reflects an understanding of the traditional standards of academic honesty. You may not use notes, your text, or an unauthorized calculator, and you may not at any time speak to other students or refer to their papers. Civility Statement: Please do not use cell phones, pagers, IPods, MP3 players, blue tooth devices, laptops, etc. during class. Cell phones and pagers should be set off. Please do not wear headsets or blue tooth devices during class. Cell phone calculators can not be used on quizzes or exams.
