Please ensure that you have purchased the correct text. Third Edition Course Description: This course is designed to provide insight into the psychological and sociological nature, origin and development of criminal behavior. It will explore the current state of theory and scientific knowledge about crime as well as the responses by the criminal justice system. Prerequisites listed in the catalog are ENG 085 and ENG 090. Method of Instruction: This course will be based on lecture and class discussion. Students should feel free to ask questions at any time. Class discussion is an important element to the successful completion of the course. In order for the discussion to be productive, you must complete the assigned reading beforeAttendance: You are expected to attend class regularly. Failure to do so will negatively impact your grade. you attend class. Examinations will cover lecture and class material as well as textbook material. Grading Scale: There will be a total possible point count of 700 points: -500 points from 4 tests - Make-up tests will be given only with documented absences, i.e. doctor's appointment, etc. The student should inform the instructor of the intended absence prior-100 points from unannounced in-class writing assignments/pop quizzes – to the date of the absence. no make-up assignments will be given in the event that the student is absent on the day of an in-class writing assignment/pop quiz -100 points from term paper which will be due on November 16, 2011. Requirements for the term paper will be discussed in class and topics of the paper must be approved by the instructor.Examinations will consist of multiple choice and/or short answer essays after 3 or 4 chapters have been completed. Please note: All writing assignments will be graded on content, proper spelling, sentence structure and grammar. Academic Honesty: Academic honesty is expected of all students. It is the ethical behavior that includes producing their own work and not representing others' work as their own, either by plagiarism, by cheating or by helping others to do so. Please review the entire description listed on page 15 of the JCC Catalog. Failure to maintain the highest standard of academic honesty may be grounds to be dropped from the class.
