Microeconomics explores the way in whichindividual economic agents (workers, consumers, households, firms and evengovernments) make decisions. Macroeconomics encompasses the aggregate economyand is concerned with issues such as total output, interest rates, inflation andunemployment. This course will attempt to combine economic theory with practical, everydayapplications. It is hoped that after this course, you will think not only about news storiesfrom a new perspective and with greater insight, but your everyday decisions as well. The course objectives are threefold: 1) to introduce students to economic assumptions, theories and reasoning, 2) to illustrate the practical importance of economic thinking ineveryday life, and 3) to build a foundation for further coursework in economics.1Teaching Assistants: Name Office Office Hours EmailZarif Rasul SMC 533 zrasulMary (Beth) Glenn SMC 528 mglenn6Ye Hong SMC 528 yhong3Lab Sections:Section Day Time Location23 Friday 11:15 – 12:05 HBB 303 (Haslam Business)24 Monday 9:05 – 9:55 HBB 136 25 Wednesday 9:05 – 9:55 PHY 304 (Nielsen Physics)27 Monday 10:10 – 11:00 Music 02229 Monday 11:15 – 12:05 HBB 32430 Wednesday 11:15 – 12:05 HBB 3242Online Course Management System: BlackboardMost everything necessary for this class will be housed in Blackboard. Rather, you should consider it an excellent sourceof secondary material should you need it (it is definitely helpful for homeworks). Withineach chapter you can find several items. There are pre-made flashcards that you mayfind helpful. In addition, there are a couple of short videos by Dr. Tucker explainingsome important chapter concepts. And, there are practice (non-graded) quizzes. Finally, each chapter has a corresponding graded homework. The due dates ofthese homework assignments will be made available to you. Finally, you can view all your grades to date, using the “View Progress” app.Students are responsible for keeping up with their own grades! If there are anyproblems or questions regarding a particular grade, they should be taken upwithin 2 weeks with either your teaching assistant or myself. That is, in July I amnot going to go back and look for your test from February because you just now noticedthat you failed it. You and you alone are responsible for keeping up with your grades.3Disability:Disability Services (DS) seeks to eliminate the barriers that students withdisabilities encounter and to work with them to achieve and maintain individualautonomy.
