What line weight are symbols?Size of SymbolsWC3The symbol size must be largeenough to accommodate thewidest text.Since you will use 1/8” text:The symbol must be at least3/8”.Material DesignationWC3The text inside the symbol indicatestwo things:1. The material to be used (letters).2. If there is more than one of each material, the product that is specified for this surface (numbers). This symbol indicates wall covering number 3. The legend willhave information about each wall covering product specified.Industry Standard Material Codes:P = Paint WC = Wallcovering C = CarpetB = Baseboard S = Stone VS = Vinyl SheetVT =Vinyl Tile CT = Ceramic Tile W = WoodMaterial Code LettersWhichever letters you use must bedescribed in the legend.A material like stone, wood, or ceramic tile may be on bothvertical and horizontal surfaces. Use the same letter code -the symbol shape will indicate the surface type.Surface Indication LinesIndicate vertical surfacefinishes by placing thesymbol on a line that isparallel to the surface. The line ends with a 45degree angled line indicatingthe extent of the finish.Indicator lines are gridweight. Center the symbolas shown. The line is at least 3/4” awayfrom the wall and shouldclear any objects (doors,etc.).Note:In this example, not every wall has aspecified finish.Vertical Surface ExamplesReview the examples:Which walls haveWC1?Which walls haveWC2?Which walls arepainted? How is the textoriented for reading? If you cannot place the line to clear thedoor, you must break the line as in thisdrawing.Vertical Surface - DoorsWhere there are vertical surfaces that are smaller, useleader lines.Begin the leader lineat the horizontalcenter of a symboland extend out fromthat symbol.A leader line breakswhere it crossesanother line.Text NotesUse text notes tosupply additionalinformation. In this example, anote is used toindicate both sidesof the doors are tobe painted the samecolor.Second ExampleIn this example oneof the doors has thesame paint on bothsides. The other two doorshave P1 on theinterior side and P2on the exterior side.Flooring and Base Symbol LocationAssuming a flooringproduct covers theentire floor and thesame base is usedthroughout, thesesymbols are placed“floating” in theroom.Center the roomtitle, then align the“floating symbolsnear each other.Finish Legend ExampleFollow the standardlegend format.Notice:The top of the symbol isaligned with the top ofthe text lettering.Finish LegendText:The product information mustinclude what is necessary to identifythe product you have specified.Format your description as follows:1. Material type (carpet, paint, etc.).2. Supplier (company name).3. “Line” or “style”.4. Color (if applicable).5. Part number, catalog number, or any identifying numbers to be shown on a purchase order. A spreadsheet document indicating thefinishes in each room. May be a boilerplate (generic) document. Produced on sticky-back with basic information. Placed on drawing sheet and customized to the project. Not all finishes shown may be used in a given project..Finish Schedule Matrix:This spreadsheet format works in conjunction with adetailed specification binder indicating the specificproducts to be used and their assigned codes.Finish ScheduleExampleAll informationmust be easy toread. In this example twospreadsheets areused:.The topspreadsheetdescribes the room. The bottomspreadsheetdefines the finishesused in theserooms by their keycode.Another ExampleIn thisexamplethere arenumbers foreach roomthat areduplicated onthe plan. There is alsoa column forthe squarefoot area ofeach room.ROOM FLOOR BASE WAINSCOT WALLS CEILING NOTESHARDWOODCARPETCERAMIC TILESHEET VINYLHARDWOODPAINTCERAMIC TILEWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTOTHERWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTWALLPAPERCEILING HEIGHTPAINTHARDWOODEXPOSED JOISTSENTRY HALL VAR.L IVING ROOM VAR.DINING ROOM 8'-0"KITCHEN 8'-0"FAMILY ROOM 8'-0"POWDER ROOM 8'-0"UTIL ITY ROOM 8'-0"F IRST FLOOR HALL 8'-0"STAIRWAY 8'-0"SECOND FLOOR HALL 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET 8'-0"MASTER BATH 8'-0"BEDROOM 2 8'-0"BATH 2 8'-0"BEDROOM 3 8'-0" Your schedule may look like this one:ROOM FLOOR BASE WAINSCOT WALLS CEIL ING NOTESHARDWOODCARPETCERAMIC TILESHEET VINYLHARDWOODPAINTCERAMIC TILEWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTOTHERWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTWALLPAPERCEILING HEIGHTPAINTHARDWOODEXPOSED JOISTSENTRY HALL VAR.L IVING ROOM VAR.DINING ROOM 8'-0"KITCHEN 8'-0"FAMILY ROOM 8'-0"POWDER ROOM 8'-0"UTIL ITY ROOM 8'-0"F IRST FLOOR HALL 8'-0"STAIRWAY 8'-0"SECOND FLOOR HALL 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET 8'-0"MASTER BATH 8'-0"BEDROOM 2 8'-0"BATH 2 8'-0"BEDROOM 3 8'-0"Line WeightsProfile weight lines are used to separate the finishsections and divide the rooms for easy reading. All other linesare primaryline weight. There are fourrooms in eachsection.Label the ScheduleAll lettering is centered vertically (orhorizontally for the finish lettering) in thespace.FINISH SCHEDULEROOM FLOOR BASE WAINSCOT WALLS CEIL ING NOTESHARDWOODCARPETCERAMIC TILESHEET VINYLHARDWOODPAINTCERAMIC TILEWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTOTHERWOOD PANELINGCERAMIC TILEPAINTWALLPAPERCEILING HEIGHTPAINTHARDWOODEXPOSED JOISTSENTRY HALL VAR.L IVING ROOM VAR.DINING ROOM 8'-0"KITCHEN 8'-0"FAMILY ROOM 8'-0"POWDER ROOM 8'-0"UTIL ITY ROOM 8'-0"F IRST FLOOR HALL 8'-0"STAIRWAY 8'-0"SECOND FLOOR HALL 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM 8'-0"MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET 8'-0"MASTER BATH 8'-0"BEDROOM 2 8'-0"BATH 2
