Lillian Pogue 14179432 Art Appreciation Assignment In the video Position 12 1 by Ivana Basic the first thing I recognized was the almost scary techno music I thought these sounds gave a very futuristic feel to the piece which is why I found it very interesting It was as if something was going to happen but it was the same style of movement throughout the whole video I think this also gave it not only an upbeat cautious feel but a calm feeling because after the approximately 2 minute long video of human bodies rotating it just stops While thinking about that fact it makes me wonder if the purpose of that was to make people understand that sometimes life could just end at any certain time You begin to feel comfortable in the world around you and all of a sudden it s blank Maybe the artist of this piece was portraying this by making people think of the piece as very interesting and different at first but once you get used to the rotation and music it ends This video really made me think inside and out about what the artist was thinking when making it I found it a very interesting work of art because I am not used to seeing human bodies just rotating and hearing such odd noises I think anyone could easily find this video interesting and challenging to wrap around one s mind In the video by Improv Everywhere called Seeing Eye People there are citizens who walk around acting like government officials that guide around people who are texting The point of this is so people can text while walking and not run into other people or objects I found this rather humorous because I find myself running into things people or walking much slower just so I can read a text or look at Twitter I think this video can be easily relatable to only because of how fast the technology industry is growing especially in phones Let s just say I would not be shocked if the government soon hired people to guide others around on a leash while they texted Not only did they film the people being guided but they also recorded the people s reactions to it The stand byers were very shocked and confused as to what was going on Some found it hilarious and some found it rather unnecessary I think this video could not only be used or expressed as a piece of art but an experiment as well of how it actually worked out and how people would react to it Did the guidance actually help And would they use the person again to get around All of these questions are things people probably are wondering as we enter this technologically needed era In WORDS directed by Daniel Mercadante and Will Hoffman one must not only watch but listen I think the point they are trying to reach is the fact that words don t only come from the speaking of people it can also come from the sounds of people or objects It shows trees blowing in the wind the keyboard of a computer and even the silence of being in outer space I found it interesting how they showed through the hairdryer and person the fact that even though some people want peace and quiet the sounds of a loud hairdryer is what people want Loudness is not always a bad thing Another thing they compared in this video was that one word can mean two or more different things and that you can describe it through actions or words I found this work of art very interesting because it puts things into perspective and makes you wonder what life would be like without sounds I know the piece is titled words but I think that is because they want people to realize you can communicate and express yourself feelings or objects through sounds too
