Work PlanGourmand Holiday CelebrationGourmand Mission StatementDedicated to the shameless and joyful preparation and consumption of large quantities of almost gourmet food in a supportive group environment. (created March 7, 1987)Holiday Celebration GoalTo enjoy a memorable holiday dinner with 25 other couplesOverall responsibilities (see attached Gantt chart for specific tasks and approximate due dates)Gourmand chair: coordinate tasks of all committeesCalling committee: contact all members to determine availabilityPlanning committee: plan menu and make all arrangementsHosts: provide venueMembers: prepare assigned recipesEveryone: eat and enjoy!Resources- The majority of resources are provided by individual members. Each member buys the ingredients necessary for their assigned menu item and provides necessary and festive serving items.- The planning committee is responsible for selecting recipes, renting dinnerware, silverware, linens, purchasing paper products, and borrowing tables and chairs and providing any decorating items. The planning committee is also in charge of set up, take down and clean up.o Dishware (china dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates and wine and water goblets) and linens (10 cloth tablecloths plus cloth napkins) are rented 2-3 weeks in advance at Special Occasions. The number ordered can be adjusted before the dinner as a more accurate headcount becomes available. Pick up Friday and return Monday.o Paper plates and napkins are used for appetizers; plastic cups for punch.o Contact PN 2-3 weeks before the dinner to arrange for tables (five 8-foot tables) and chairs (20 folding chairs) from ___________church. These are to be picked up on Saturday AM and returned Sunday around 1PM. Tables must be secured well during transport (we don’t want any more stories about runaway tables!)o Pick up votives from BS Saturday; buy tea candles at Special Occasions.o Arrange for kitchen helpers. In the past we have hired sons and daughters of members and paid them $30 each for the evening.o You may wish to hire a cleaning person for Sunday afternoon – to vacuum and clean upstairs, including kitchen and bathrooms. ’04 cost was $40. Committee members picked up all tables, chairs, and decorations and put the kitchen and living room areas back in order.o See attached layout for placement of buffet tables, punch tables and dining tables. - Costs of all ingredients and rented equipment are shared equally by all members, based on the receipts provided.Constraints/ObstaclesThe planning committee is encouraged to keep the cost to less than $60.00 per couple, to check that all ingredients are readily available, to pre-order any special ingredients, and to balance the cooking load.Although all of the recipes have been selected carefully, only a few have been pretested; thus, cooks are encouraged to use their own best judgment while preparing them. Read recipesthoroughly before starting to cook and taste for flavor as needed. Call a committee member if you are still flummoxed.Parking is limited so members are encouraged to carpool. Four parking slots are available in the driveway; latecomers must park along the roadway. Do not park in front of the door – except for unloading and loading. The dinner will go on – even with inclement weather. (Throw sleeping bags in your car if the forecast is really dire!)Other: the one and only rule of the gourmand club (GC)As you may have noticed, GC has no written constitution or by laws. However, there is one rule we all observe. The rule: If you agree to attend a dinner, you accept the obligation of preparing and bringing the dishes you are assigned, even if you cannot attend.Example: One of our members was taken to the hospital in labor. Her husband then wenthome, fixed the dish for the dinner that evening, took it to the host house and went back to the hospital.Exception: death in the family.Note: feel free to attend even if your spouse/partner cannot make it. Almost everyone in the grouphas attended a dinner as a single at one time or
