McALLISTER, INSTRUCTOR PROJECT B Due: Monday, February 27th Based on the following information and the floorplan given, select a “real” Client to interview and for whom to create an interior environment. Based on the information gathered, further develop the Client Profile and Project Program. Establish a Design Concept and develop a Design Concept Statement. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: General Client Profile: 1. The client is 30 years old and single, (male or female). 2. S/he is an interior designer and works at home freelancing for other interior designers and design firms, on a contract basis. 3. S/he seldom meets with clients in her/his home/studio. 4. S/he loves to entertain friends, and does often. 5. S/he is an avid music aficionado, art collector, (or) sports enthusiast. Design Criteria: 1. Provide areas for sleeping, dining, food prep., lounging, storage, bathroom, washer/dryer, HVAC. 2. Provide an area for a home office/studio, including: a. drawing/layout table w/ chair. b. side work table. c. equipment: personal computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, copier, etc. (can be placed on work table). d. file cabinet, (can be vertical or lateral). e. storage for presentation boards. f. book/binder storage. 3. The space is a townhouse or condo complex. Select a site appropriate for the Client. 4. Consider resale value - avoid overcustomizing. (Remember this is a relative statement). 5. Consider lighting and views to and from the exterior. Skylights may be added. 6. Consider and research venting, plumbing proximities, exterior openings at bedroom(s). 7. Remember the design elements and principles studied in “Elements and Principles of Design”. Use your creative abilities. Step out of your “nine dots”!. DESIGN PRESENTATION: 1. All drawing and lettering to be free-hand, in ink. 2. Show all furniture items, whether free-standing or built-in.3. Label all areas/rooms. 4. Label overall plan”____________________Residence”. 5. Indicate scale, north arrow, your name, date. 6. Submit 2 prints (blueprints). 7. Be prepared to present and “sell” the Design Concept and your design solutions. EVALUATION CRITERIA: 1. Oral Presentation - enthusiastically “sell” your Design Concept: use design vocabulary. 2. Adherence to Project Requirement - Project Program addressed. 3. Technical Presentation - neat, clean, professional quality. 4. Design content - use of elements and principles, spatial relationships, circulation. 5.
