Music in Theory and Practice, Vol. I, 6th Ed.OverviewThe second semester of Music Theory is a continuation of Mus.151. Where the fall semester was primarily concerned with filling a "tool box" with basic knowledge of chords, harmony and musical structure, the second semester is more concerned with applications. New topics will include a more complete study of secondary dominant structures, modulation, and musical form. An important emphasis will be placed on composition within forms, including 32 bar song form and 12 bar blues. Text setting and basic orchestration will also be considered as composition projects allow each student to explore the possibilities of personal expression.GradingGrades for Mus.152 will be based on exams (3, plus final exam), composition projects (including final comp. project), quizzes, and weekly assignments. Assignments submitted late will receive no credit if submitted more than one week after due date.Extra credit will be awarded for work completed from the workbook, which accompaniesthe text.Music Theory 152 meets Associate Degree Outcomes (ADO) 1(a), 8, 12, and 15.Course Outline Winter 2007January 8 Leading tone seventh chord; structure and usage.
