Chemistry 20L Important Information on Using WebCT to Take the Vinegar Experiment (6a) Pre-Lab On-line Quiz Read the following items carefully BEFORE you attempt to take the on-line quiz You may take the quiz either at home or on-campus. It is highly recommended that you use a PC equipped with Internet Explorer and Real Player to take the on-line quiz. If you need to download the Real Player, click here. There are computers in the Science Learning Center (SLC) in Young Hall that you can use to take the on-line quiz. The computer labs are located in 1054 Young, 4335 Young and 4336 Young. Login name for the computers in Young Hall is the same as your BOL account. Your password is your student ID. The same login applies to the WebCT quiz. Before you logon to WebCT, keep in mind the following: (1) Each question on the quiz is classified into one or more of the following areas listed below. Concepts (C): Question of this type involves concepts discussed in lectures, in the lab manual and/or in the laboratory textbook (Pavia for 14BL, 14CL & 30AL) Mathematics (M): Question of this type involves simple calculations based on the concepts discussed in lectures and/or in the lab manual Techniques (T): Question of this type involves laboratory techniques discussed in the lectures, in the lab manual, in the laboratory textbook (Pavia for 14BL, 14CL & 30AL) and/or in the techniques videos. Procedures (P): Question of this type involves the understandings of the procedures of the experiment. Use your lab manual as your reference. Basic Laboratory Skills (BLS): Question of this type involves some basic laboratory skills that are discussed either in lectures, in the lab manual or in the laboratory textbook. Some questions may also contain hyperlinks.(2) You MUST finish the entire quiz during the two-day window preceding your lab section. You will NOT be able to submit the quiz after your lab section begins. The table below summarizes the quiz schedules for each individual lab section for Part 1 of the Vinegar experiment (11/7-11/13): Note: For this experiment, the pre-lab quiz needs to be completed during the week of 11/14 – 11/20 even though the actual experiment is scheduled during the week of 11/7-11/13. IMPORTANT: There is also a time duration restriction for each quiz. You have ONLY 2 hours to complete and submit the quiz once you start. After this time limit expires, your quiz will NOT be accepted for grading even if you are within the time window indicated in the table. Closing the web browser or quitting the WebCT program will not stop the time tracking process in WebCT. In other words, once you logon to WebCT, the time duration will start and you MUST finish the entire quiz in 2 hours. Be sure you have completed your pre-lab preparation work (see syllabus and lab schedule) before you start the quiz. Lab Sections Date & Time that the Date & Time that the On-line Quiz will be available On-line Quiz will end 1B (T 11:30am) Sunday (11/17) 11:30am Tuesday (11/19) 11:30am 1C (T 3pm) Sunday (11/17) 3pm Tuesday (11/19) 3pm 1D (W 2pm) Monday (11/18) 2pm Wednesday (11/20) 2pm 1E (R 8am) Tuesday (11/12) 8am Thursday (11/14) 8am 1F (R 11:30am) Tuesday (11/12) 11:30am Thursday (11/14) 11:30am 1G (R 3pm) Tuesday (11/12) 3pm Thursday (11/14) 3pmOnce you logon to WebCT, keep in mind the following: (1) Click on the icon title “Vinegar (Part 1) Lab Quiz” (your lab section will appear also in the title) to start the quiz. (2) Be sure to click the “SAVE ANSWER” button after you complete each question (3) Only click on the “FINISH” button to submit the quiz for grading when you have completed ALL the questions. Once you click on the “FINISH” button, you will not be able to get back to the on-line quiz. Each on-line quiz can only be submitted once for grading. There are a total of 10 questions in the Vinegar Experiment (Part 1) Pre-lab On-line Quiz (4) After you submit the quiz, make sure you select the “View Results” feature on WebCT to have the quiz graded and get the score of your quiz. If you forget this step, your quiz will NOT be graded. Click here when you are ready to take the vinegar experiment (part 1) on-line
