Homework 24 Tests 50 Final 16 Page 2 of 6 Tests Test will cover the material covered in class and on the homework You will be allowed one side of one letter size sheet of notes to use during the test You may not use any instructor prepared reviews in place of these notes There will be no make up tests If you miss a test for any reason I will substitute your final exam grade for the missed test grade I will do this only once A second missed test will stand as a 0 Homework Unfortunately the only way to learn math is to do math Homework will be a major component of this class Homework will be graded in the form of a homework quiz Homework quizzes will be given every day after questions have been answered Each homework quiz will be worth 15 points Homework assignments will consist of many odd numbered problems To receive credit for a problem you must show your work The answers to the odd numbered problems are in the back of your book so if there is no work I will assume that you have copied down the answer and you will receive no credit for that problem I will give partial credit for problems that are incorrect but have good work You will receive no credit for any problems that I suspect were copied from the Solutions Manual Although there will be roughly 20 homework quizzes only 16 will be counted towards your grade This leaves roughly 4 that will be dropped at the end of the semester There will be no make up homework quizzes Portfolio Every student is required to complete the Portfolio Project as part of the MTH 120 Beginning Algebra experience The project will count for 10 of the final course grade The project will emphasize the application of MTH 120 Beginning Algebra mathematics content to real world situations Within the project special emphasis will be placed on the use of mathematical skills that are of particular importance in the health field as well as skills needed for everyday living Incompletes The incomplete policy of the college states that incompletes should be given only when a student s work is sufficient in quality but lacking in quantity In other words in order to receive an incomplete you must be in good standing in the class regular attendance homework assignments completed I will not give an incomplete simply to avoid a failing grade Please Note Students must earn a minimum 2 0 grade in all pre requisites and all courses contributing to an earned certificate or degree In other words if you do not earn a 2 0 in this course and register for the next course in the sequence anyway you will most likely be automatically dropped If you need help Math tutoring is available Monday through Friday in the Math Lab located in Page 3 of 6 McDivitt Hall Room 244 245 The schedule varies each semester so you will want to check with me or the lab consultant once the semester begins for the open hours Besides the services of the tutor the lab also contains tutorial video tapes and computer programs Students requiring special assistance including those affected by the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the Center for Student Success This is the first step in acquiring the appropriate accommodations to facilitate your learning Math 120 Core Course Objectives Students completing Math 120 Beginning Algebra should be able to 1 2 3 4 5 Simplify basic algebraic exponential rational and radical
