Prepare pipe for butt-welding by using the horizontal band saw, the watts flame cutter and beveler, a halfround file, and a hand grinder. 2. Align, space, and tack weld the butt joints in the 2, 5, and 6-G positions. 3. Deposit the root pass using the GTAW (TIG) welding process in the 2, 5, and 6 G positions. 4. Deposit the fill and cover passes using the SMAW (Stick) welding process with E-7018 electrode in the 2, 5, and 6-G positions. 5. Evaluate the finished joint to determine whether or not it is acceptable for bend testing.6. Prepare the pipe butt joints for the guided bend test by using available shop testing equipment. Test coupons will be prepared to applicable code standards.7. Successfully pass the guided bend test.TOPICAL UNIT OUTLINE/UNIT OBJECTIVES:UNIT I: Arc Pipe Welding II 1. Prepare all pipe for welding by using available shop equipment.2. Weld all the pipe-to-pipe butt joints in the 2G, 5G, and 6G positions using the open root and multiple pass fill techniques. 3. Deposit root passes using electrode assigned by the instructor. 4. Deposit fill passes using electrode assigned by the instructor. 5. Evaluate completed welds for acceptability. 6. Discuss completed work with the instructor. 7. Rework and additional practice as required. 8. Prepare all pipe butt joints for the guided bend test by using available shop equipment. Test coupons will be prepared to applicable code standards. ESO Revised 3-13-01Metropolitan Community CollegeCOURSE OUTLINE FORM1/14/2019Page 3 of 3COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION:Upon completion of the objectives for this course, the student will have demonstrated the ability to cognitively assess and evaluate root, fill and cover passes and testing of butt welded pipe joints in the 2G, 5G and 6G position. In addition, the student will have demonstrated the psychomotor ability to prepare and weld carbon steel pipe in several positions per American Welding Society standards.COURSE OBJECTIVES/ASSESSMENT MEASURESCOURSE OBJECTIVES ASSESSMENT MEASURES 1.
