Course Description: An analysis of the uses of Popular Culture in Latin American Fiction form 1960 to 2000. IV. Course Objectives: • Study concepts of culture, pop culture, and popular culture as use in Latin America • Examine how cultural representations and products are portrayed in the novels of Laura Esquivel, Eduardo González Viaña y Manuel Puig,. Allowed and encouraged are the use of dictionaries (except during an exam), spell check programs, or any writing assistance programs available in the FLRC. However, the use of translation software is prohibited Class time will be used to emphasize development of speaking skills with the support of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and writing exercises. You are expected to study and practice at home as part of your daily preparation. All assignments are to be finished by the time class begins. No late homework will be accepted. Emergencies will be handled on an individual basis. No make-up tests, class activities or assignments will be given.
