This course is intended as preparation for COMPSCI 125.ObjectivesAt the end of the course, students will be able to understand and exploit the following fundamentalprogramming language concepts using Alice and to begin to transfer these concepts to basic Java programs.1. Classes and objects2. Methods, functions, and parameters3. Object-oriented design4. Iteration5. Conditional statements6. Arrays1PrerequisitesSatisfactory score on Mathematics placement exam.TextbookAlice in Action with Java by Joel AdamsActivitiesGrades are based on student performance on three kinds of activities: homework (a limited amount),programs, and examinations. The following table shows each activity as a percentage of the course grade.Programs & Homework 50%Test #1 15%Test #2 15%Final 20%Homework is to be delivered during class on the day it is due. Programs must be submitted to the instruc-tor by 12:00PM of the due date (instructions for submitting programs will be included with assignments).There will be a 5% penalty assessed per class period for late programs.Exam ScheduleFirst Exam – 9/29/09Second Exam – 11/5/09Final Exam – Tuesday, December 15 1:00–3:00Programming AssignmentsPrograms will generally be assigned on a weekly basis. A small number more challenging problems willrequire additional time. A minimum of seven (multiproblem) programming assignments will be given.CollaborationOn homework and programs, each student must work independently unless otherwise instructed. Studentscan discuss ideas and general principles, but each student’s work must be original except on groupassignments. On tests, of course, each student must work entirely
