Department of Mechanical EngineeringME EN 4000 - Engineering Design IName:ID #: Assigned: Thursday, September 9, 2004Due: Friday, September 17, 2004, 12pm in 2110 MEBIntroductionThis second lab teaches the creation of an assembly, and the modeling of parts within an assembly. Theexercise introduces modeling according to assembly requirements and manufacturing constraints.Task1. Download the part files of all components and create an assembly (see attached drawing -the spindle nut is not shown).2. Create a solid model of a spindle that assembles inside the hub shown on the next page. Thecomplete assembly consists of the spindle, two deep-groove bearings (40x68x15 and30x55x13), the hub, a pressure ring, and a spindle nut for the fixed bearing.3. Create an engineering drawing of the spindle showing all details and dimensions that are rel-evant to the manufacturing of the part. Do not concern yourself with tolerances - just displaythe nominal dimensions.4. Create an engineering drawing of the assembly with a cut through the assembly (no dimen-sions). Print out both engineering drawings, and write your name on it.Hints• The smaller of the two bearings serves as the fixed bearing, the larger bearing is allowed toslide.• The pressure ring has a center bore with clearance for the spindle and locates the fixed bear-ing using 4 M12 bolts.• Corners are never perfectly sharp because the edge of every cutting tool has a radius.• It is good practice to avoid sharp edges. Use chamfers to ease assembly and avoid injuries.• Dimensions provided in drawings should reflect both manufacturing and measuring aspects.• Download the Senior Design drawing format from the ME 4000 website and place it intoyour Pro/ENGINEER working directory. Use the format to create drawings similar to theattached drawings.Engineering Lab 22SECTION A-ASCALE
