Christian community The ministry of the Spirit in the worship and interpersonal relations of Christians will be stressed Includes a special unit on the theology of the Church COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course the student should have demonstrated in class discussions presentations examinations and written papers 1 An understanding of the New Testament witness to the work of the Holy Spirit in the earliest Christian church 2 An understanding of the Pentecostal doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit in the light of the biblical witness and contemporary theological analysis 3 An understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in gifting the church and its members for service 4 An understanding of the activity of the Holy Spirit in the worship of the church 5 An understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in sanctifying and maturing the church and its members 6 A sound methodology for biblical theology 7 Growth in personal faith and the practice of ministry TEXTBOOKS Fee before the first session and by the end of the class to complete and report on a form to be supplied by the instructor the following reading assignments a All textbooks in entirety b Any additional readings including research for papers c New Testament books of Acts and 1 Corinthians emphasize chs 12 14 A final reading report attesting the reading of not less than 1 000 pages is to be submitted on the last day of class 2 Presentation Papers The student is expected to prepare one 2 3 page reflection paper for each Unit numbers 2 5 total of four papers The topic should be chosen with the professor s permission from materials to be covered in each specific session Papers should be double spaced may be informal and may use parenthetical references for documentation Time permitting each student will present one or more of their papers to the class Due at beginning of each class 3 Research Paper The student is expected to expand one of the four presentation papers into a 10 page research paper that 1 utilizes multiple scholarly sources not less than ten try to include books journals and Internet 2 is carefully documented with footnotes endnotes and bibliography 3 carefully identifies direct quotes with quotation marks or indentation and 4 conforms to Turabian 7th edition Counseling students only may use APA form Due at last class session GRADING The course grade will be determined as follows Presentation papers 50 Final Paper 50 Participation Reading 10 The participation grade may be employed in evaluating the quality of readings care and time expended and class participation in discussions questions and presentations Grades will be averaged using the following scale F 1 D 2 D 3 D 4 C 5 C 6 C 7 B 8 B 9 B 10 A 11 A 12 Grade reporting is based on the AGTS scale
