Forecasting demand, aggregate planning, inventory planning and control, andscheduling provide the basis for linking strategic plans to the production plan. Other topicsdiscussed include: quality control, product and process design, facility location and layout,productivity improvement, and project management. Prerequisite: QMB 2301.GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVESAt the completion of this course, the students will:- have basic understanding of the field of production and operations management and itsimportance in an organization;- be familiar with the more important issues and decision processes within production andoperations management including the quantitative tools and techniques used in the field;- know the key functions and job opportunities related to production and operationsmanagement.REQUIRED TEXTRichard B. Each quiz will generallycount for 5 – 10 points. Quizzes may be given at any time during the class. There will be nomake-up of missed quizzes. HOMEWORKHomework assignments (mostly based on problems in the textbook) are usually not to besubmitted—unless otherwise announced in class beforehand. The assignments are intended toprepare students for quizzes and examinations. The answers to these homework assignmentswill be eventually be posted, in order for students to note the correct analyses/solutions.Should any of the homework assignments be required for submission, the dates for submissionwill generally be announced one week in advance. Hence, if you will be unable to make it toclass when an assignment is due, it is your responsibility to arrange for someone (e.g., aclassmate) to turn it in for you. A required assignment must be turned in at the start of thesession during which it is due, and will be given a score of at most 50% of points assigned ifsubmitted beyond 10 minutes of the start of the session. A required assignment will not be givencredit if not submitted by the end of the class session during which it is due.
