Inquiry Project GEOG 361 Remote Sensing in the Geosciences Inquiry Project 1 Dr Andrew Klein 1 Instructions for the Inquiry Project will be provided in class and the PowerPoint slides detailing it will be made available on the class website 2 Students will work in Groups of Four To facilitate Group work each student should list the students working in their group and their contact information in the table provided at the end of the instructions Each group will provide the instructor with the names of the group members 3 The project will be graded on the basis of a five slide PowerPoint presentation The slides should be constructed as follows a Slide 1 The Group s stated hypothesis group member names b Slide 2 A summary graphic diagram illustrating the physical processes responsible for the phenomena and what its affects are c Slide 3 Appropriate supporting theory and or equations etc d Slide 4 Up to the group to decide e Slide 5 Appropriate references in the Chicago Manual of Style author date format 4 All PowerPoint presentations will be graded using the following Rubric 1 2 Hypothesis partially explains question but incomplete or inaccurate 3 4 Hypothesis mostly explains question but still incomplete explanation Hypothesis adequately explains question Correctness of Hypothesis Hypothesis does not come close to explaining question Completeness Quality and Appropriateness of Summary Graphic Graphic does not illustrate important concepts at all Graphic captures a minority of the important concepts Graphic captures the majority of the important concepts Graphic completely illustrates important concepts Quality and Appropriateness of Supporting Theory Equations Supporting Theory Equations not relevant to topic and or incorrect Supporting Theory Equations somewhat relevant to topic and partially correct Supporting Theory Equations relevant to topic and mostly correct Supporting Theory Equations sound and correctly backup hypothesis Quality of Reference Sources Reference Sources are of low quality or provide incorrect information or are not relevant to topic Reference Sources are too general and inadequate to correctly cover topic Reference sources are acceptable but could be of better academic quality and or better cover topic Reference sources are of high academic quality appropriate to hypothesis and sufficiently cover topic 1 Inquiry Project Assignments will be graded as follows Letter Grade A B C D F Numeric Score from Rubric 14 16 11 13 8 10 5 7 4 If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me 2
