Necessary Materials: Beginning Algebra, 4th Edition by K. Elayn Martin-GayA calculator Mathematics 120 is a basic algebra class in which you will work with various mathematics operations and concepts. You, as the student, are responsible for your own progress and meeting all deadlines as indicated on the syllabus.Class meetings will be used for discussion of the relevant topics and individual instruction. In addition, I will be available for 15 minutes after class for those who have questions on the use of the calculator, study skills, and instructional material. If you have concerns, please let me know. Please read the JCC Academic Honesty Policy.CLASS BEHAVIOR: Please either turn cell phones and beepers off or set to vibrate and place out of sight: in your backpack or pocket or on the floor. If you are in class, I expect you to listen to the lecture and cooperate in the learning process. Please do not chat with friends, work on other courses, send text messages, or sleep during class time; if you persist in such behavior, I will ask you to leave. ATTENDANCE: I encourage you to attend regularly to help you build understanding; however, I do not grade on attendance. Late arrivals disturb the class; if you are delayed, please enter the room unobtrusively and wait until the break or after class to pick up papers, etc. JCC requires all instructors to report student attendance and levels of academic success during the first half of the semester. Given this policy, if you have two consecutive absences or 4 non-consecutive absences during the first eight weeks, I will drop you from the course.
