Due at Exam #2Option #1 Research ParticipationPsychology 467Extra Credit OptionsDue at Exam #2 You may earn up to 15 points total in extra credit. Option #1 Research ParticipationFor extra credit you may participate in one or more research experiments conducted through the Psychology Division. Research that is conducted through other departmentsor divisions is not eligible for extra credit in this class (but may be in another class, so check with your other professors). The amount of extra credit that you earn in an experiment depends upon the amount of time involved in participation. Typically for 30 minutes or less you earn 5 points, more time spent earns more points. For example if you spend more than 30 minutes you will earn 10 points extra credit. Earning the full 15points, requires that you participate in 3 short studies (30 minutes or less) or any other combination of times. To find out about research opportunities, periodically check the bulletin board outside of the Todd 106. If you sign up to participate in research, be sure to show up for the research. When you participate, be sure that the researcher gives you a receipt to indicate your participation and the amount of time that was spent for thestudy (i.e., 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.). You may not use participation in specific study to fulfill extra credit requirements for more than one psychology class. Option #2 Interview The purpose of this assignment is for you to determine how the statistics and research methods you are currently learning are used in various professions. Note that this is an individual project and although it may take you some time, it will provide you with information relevant to your own professional development, plus earn you extra credit. For this assignment, you can earn up to 15 points extra credit by interviewing and summarizing information for one person who is currently in a career that you are interested in pursuing. The person that you interview should be in a field somewhat related to psychology. The interview and summary is worth up to 15 points. Specific directions for extra credit option #2 appear below.Follow these steps to successfully complete this extra credit option.a) Choose a careers/job title that you are interested in pursuing. If you don’t have any specific ideas about potential careers, you can find common careers for psychology majors at the following websites: http://www.wou.edu/student/career/majors/default.html or http://www.psywww.com/careers/jobs.htmb) Interview a person who is currently in that field. Ask that person the attached questions. You can interview anyone you know including a professor, a parent or guardian, a friend’s parent, neighbor, etc. If you do not personally know anyone in thefield for which you are interested try using a phone book or searching online to locate professionals. If you have a difficult time locating a person to interview, come see me and hopefully together we can find someone. Initially, when you contact the person, tell the person who you are (i.e., psychology major at WOU), tell them what you are doing (i.e., a careers assignment for a class) and that you would like to interview them about their job at a time that is convenient. Depending upon the career chosen and the comfort level of the person you are interviewing, the interview can take between 10-30 minutes. Do not expect to conduct the interview when you first contact them. It is ok to interview the person over the phone. If you do an in person interview, be sure that the interview is conducted in a public/safe place. c) Write down the person’s responses to the attached set of questions. After the interview type up the questions and responses and submit them for extra credit.
