The course will focus on the application of critical measuring, comparison and repair procedures needed to repair component parts.OUTLINE OF MAJOR CONTENT AREAS:1. Identify Machine Tools2. Identify Tooling3. Do Critical Measuring4. Understand & Practice Safe Working HabitsCOURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES:The student will:1. exhibit safe work practices2. display dependability3. exhibit professionalism4. contribute to class discussion5. identify different measuring devises6. display correct usage of each measuring device7. identify a lathe and its working parts8. exhibit correct operation of a machine lathe9. identify a milling machine and its comp10. exhibit correct operation of a milling machine11. identify a surface grinder and its comp.12. exhibit correct operation of surface grinder13. create a drawing from given specifications and create the part using correct tooling and procedures14. measure an engine block and determine its reuse15. measure a crankshaft and determine its reuse16. measure a counterbore and determine its condition17. metalize a shaft and turn it to a designated dia. On a lathe18. thread a shaft on the lathe19. sharpen tool bits as needed for a specific function20. drill and tap a hole on the lathe21. drill and tap a hole on the mill22. inspection and service of machine toolsHCC COMPETENCIES MET:Working Productively & Cooperatively, Communicating Clearly & Effectively, Thinking Creatively & Critically, Social Responsibility, Valuing Self.STUDENT CONTRIBUTIONS:Students are expected to attend all lectures and lab sessions, participate and contribute to class discussions, complete all assignments on time and request assistance when needed. Attendance is critical in this class.METHODS FOR EVALUATING STUDENT LEARNING:Performance objectives and exams will be translated to points and the points to grades.
