Discuss WQ Organizer Worksheets 1) What did you like in the examples you found? 2) What didnʼt you like from the examples? 3) What is the tangible outcome of your planned WebQuest? 4) Based on the Taskonomy, which type of task is this? Why? 5) How will your WebQuest require both collaboration & inquiry? 6) How will you use Inspiration, Kidspiration, or a Spreadsheet to support collaboration? 7) What are the individual roles? Will all students be learning? II. Review from Previous Lectures & Labs 1) Remember, you are to design a collaborative, inquiry-oriented learning activity to support one of the objectives from your thematic unit. 2) Align your project with standards 1, 3, 4, 6, and 11. Follow the Reflection Guidelines. 3) Fair Use does not apply to your web site. You may not use images or other media from another web site or other source unless permission is granted. Look for a “terms of use” statement, creative commons license or other statement of expressed written permission. If none is found, then you may not copy the work. 4) Follow the assignment page. You are responsible to meet all requirements and expectations described on the WebQuest assignment, and also on the Inspiration/Kidspiration, or Spreadsheet assignment pages. III. Sign-in to Google Apps for UNI 1) Use Firefox (not Internet Explorer) 2) Go to www.google.com > “More” pull-down menu along the top > “Sites” 3) Select “Sign in with a Google Apps Account” (lower-right) 4) Enter your UNI e-mail address. 5) If necessary, click “Looking for your sites in uni.edu” IV. Inserting Video Gadgets 1) Open the Resources page and position the cursor below the Gadgets heading 2) Open a new tab (File menu > New Tab) and go to www.youtube.com 3) Search for a video that could be used as a resource for students 4) From the page where the video plays, copy the URL from the address bar of the browser 5) Return to your Resources page and go to the Insert menu > Video > YouTube 6) Paste the URL copied from YouTube, customize the title if desired, click Save. 7) In the properties that appear when the gadget is clicked, note options to align, wrap, or remove. 8) Save the page to see your new gadget work. Notice how the theme is integrated into the title. More Gadgets 1) Edit the Resources page again 2) Position the cursor below the video gadget from above 3) Go to the Insert menu > More Gadgets… (at the bottom) a) Browse by category or search by keyword 4) Search for other gadgets (e.g., Wikipedia, calculator, converter, etc.) 5) Click the “Preview Gadget” button then “OK” to insert the gadget on your page. 6) Note properties bar that appears below the gadget (wrap, alignment, remove, etc.) 7) You must save the page to see your new gadget work. VI. Inserting a Table of Contents (optional—see our demo for an example) 1) Go to your Resources page, click “Edit Page” 2) Add these headings to organize the four types of resources youʼll include for students: a) Web Sites b) Gadgets c) Computer Based Non-Internet d) Non-Computer, Traditional Media 3) Using the Format menu, format each heading with the same heading style (i.e., H2 or H3) 4) Click to position the cursor at the very beginning of the main body content frame. 5) From the Insert menu, choose Table of Contents, click Save. 6) In the properties that appear below the TOC, enable wrap and right alignment. 7) Save the page and examine how the TOC appears. Note that each heading style appears automatically (only text formatted with heading styles appears)—any changes to your headings will automatically be reflected in the table of contents. VII. Attaching External Files (required for Collaboration tool) 1) Open the Introduction page and scroll to the bottom of the page to see the attachment area 2) If you donʼt see attachments go to the More actions menu > Page settings > check the “Allow attachments” option 3) Click “Save” and scroll down to the bottom of the page 4) Click “Attachments” at the bottom of the page then “Choose File” Note–This is how to attach your Inspiration, Kidspiration, or Spreadsheet collaboration tool VIII. Revision History 1) Go More Actions > Revision History (upper-right corner, next to “Edit Page” button) 2) Several versions of the page are listed with their modification date & options to revert 3) Click “Return to site” (upper-left) when finishedEducational Technology & Design Page 3 of 3 Google Sites • WebQuest 2 Spring 2010 IX. Iowa AEA Online 1) Go to www.iowaaeaonline.org User Name: _____________ Password: _______________ (use for each service below) 2) Terms of Use a) Click the Educators tab (upper-right) b) Mouse over Copyright / Terms & Conditions c) Consult the terms of use for each individual service ⇒ Which services allow you to use their content on your web site? 3) iCLIPART for Schools a) Observe the media tabs along the top and options in the drop-down next to Search. b) Note Advanced Search option. c) Explore the process for downloading images ⇒ Click thumbnail for more options ⇒ Choose desired format and size • Format must be GIF, JPG or PNG format for a web site • Small or medium size (about 200–400 pixels wide) ⇒ Click the Download button next to your selection ⇒ Follow the download instructions provided (Generally, right-click on an image and choose “Save Image As…” ) X. Student Work Time 1) Find resources to support students within your planned Webquest project. Follow the requirements for information and descriptions as outlined on the assignment description page. Submitting Your Assignment 1) Go to your WebQuest home page (Introduction) 2) Copy & paste the URL in the address bar of the browser to the Submission box of the Assignments area in eLearning.
