The exams w ill beclosed-book and closed-notes. The final exam will be comprehensive and cover the materialfrom the entire course.8 ProjectThere will be one group project to be implemented using Oracle and Java. The groups cancomprise of u p to two students. The grading will be oblivious to the group size – i.e. oneperson pr ojects will be assessed at the same level as two person projects. The project willhave multiple phases with the later phases dependent upon previous phases. Late projectswill not be accepted except in the cases allowed by the University policy. All groups mustdemonstrate their projects between 14–16 May. A sign up sheet will be posted at thebeginning of May and the time slots will be assigned on first come first serve basis. Detailsof the project will be posted on the course web-page by mid-February.Course Outline-II9 Grading and Required WorkYour fi nal grade will be based u pon s even quizzes (7%), five homework assignments (15%),one project (23%), one midterm examination (25%) and the final examination (30%). Thegrade is given only for work done during the semester; incomplete grades will given onlywhen mandated by the UMBC policy. Failure to do the work on time is not an excuse forgranting an incomplete grade.Required work consists of (1) taking the midterm and the final exams, (2) doing allthe homework assignments, (3) taking at least four of the seven quizzes and (4) a pr oject.Further, you are expected to actively participate in class discussions.All the seven quizzes will be given at the beginning of class . You will have 10 minutesto complete each quiz. The quizzes will be based on the new material covered since theprevious quiz.Homework is due at the beginning of lecture – this is so you do not work on yourhomework during lectur e. Late homework will not be accepted – this is to allow for timelygrading and discussion of the homework solutions. Since you will be given partial creditfor serious attempts, you s hould simply turn in whatever you have accomplished for thehomework set when it is d ue.Your final grade will be based on your total score on all the activities in table 1 weightedappropriately. The instructor will convert the total score into the letter grades by thefollowing mapping: [90 − 100] ⇒ A, [80 − 90) ⇒ B, [70 − 80) ⇒ C,[60 − 70) ⇒ D,[60 − 100] ⇒ P , [0 − 60) ⇒ F .
