Note: Greek 1A and 1B do not apply toward fulfillment of degree requirements for students in the M. Div. program. These classes are considered M. Div. prerequisites (unless the student has used Hebrew 1A and 1B in place of the prerequisite of one year of a biblical language). O BJE C T I V ES Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. reproduce by memory grammatical paradigms, 2. pronounce and identify meanings of vocabulary words, 3. analyze and translate exercise worksheets, 4. begin to apply knowledge of Koine Greek to study in the New Testament. 1You may call with questions or may schedule an appointment to meet either in person on campus or for a telephone appointment. I would he happy to serve your needs, even outside of Greek questions. Students may come and go without an appointment during Open-Door Office Hours if no one has scheduled an appointment. To have my undivided attention, though, schedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance. (The $20 annual fee [paid by credit card online] permits the student to take the exam as many times as they choose throughout one full year to see how they compare with other Greek students.) B ASI C O U T L IN E A ND C A L E ND A R 1. Work through two-thirds of the textbook (Machen, New Testame nt Greek for Beginners, 2nd ed.) at a pace of (usually) two lessons per weekly unit. 2. Interactive lectures enhanced with funny Greek music, the joy of discovery, application of learning to the Greek New Testament [GNT], and spiritual inspiration; and language-lab drill sessions enhanced with small-group activities.  Optionally, the student may view and interact with the DVDs. 2. Memorization and homework aided by the following sections in the Course Manual: §1 Study Guides, §2 Vocabulary Drills, §3 Paradigm Drill, §4 Exercise Worksheets, §5 Answers (to Exercise Worksheets), §6 Practice Quizzes, §7 Songs, and §8 Review Lists and Aids; and a growing collection online learning resources: e.g., Greek Translation PPTs, Audio and Video Vocabulary Flashcards, funny student-generated videos, Greek Usage Online Forum Posts, etc. 3. 12 unit quizzes and 3 final exams. R E Q UIR E M E N TS 1. Participation 3 times (roughly once each week, if moving at a summer VHPHVWHU¶V pace) in the online G ree k Usage Forum.2 a. Students must make 2 original posts about things they either discovered or questions that arose during their personal study in the GNT while using it in chapel, church, small group, and personal devotions. b. Students must make 1 secondary post LQWHUDFWLQJ ZLWK RWKHU VWXGHQWV¶ GLVFRYHULHV RU questions posted. These responses may be answers to, further observations on, or further TXHVWLRQV EDVHG RQ WKH RWKHU VWXGHQWV¶ TXHVWLRQV  Posts, whether original comments or responseV WR RWKHUV¶ FRPPHQWV VKRXOG EH between 50 (minimum word count for a secondary post) and 100 (good word count length for an original) words each. (Be careful to enter Greek words using proper rules of English transliteration!)  Note: Posts are not to be a MRXUQDO UHJDUGLQJ VWXGHQWV¶ SURJUHVV No credit is given for posts like: ³,¶P UHFRJQL]LQJ PRUH ZRUGV «  7KLV ZDV D KDUG ZHHN LQ FODVV « , OLNH WKH *UHHN JUDPPDU VRQJV´ 2. Analysis,3 translation, correction RI WKH VWXGHQW¶V HUURUV (in a different color by consulting the Answers [§5] of the Course Manual), and self-scoring of the assigned E xercise Worksheets [§4 of the Course Manual] (as explained below).
