Attendance Policy As per college and departmental policy, the instructor is allowed to withdraw a student when that student’s absences exceed the number of times the class meets weekly. See current GCC student Handbook for complete absence policy. If you drop the class be sure to personally withdraw in order to avoid receiving an F for the class. Grading procedure There will be seven tests this semester. Tests and test questions may vary to include short answer, multiple choice, true-false, matching column, identification/definition, and essay. Test items will include both textbook and lecture material. Take home tests are due within one week after being given. If not turned in on that date, 20% will be subtracted from the test score. After one week, no credit will be given for that test. See student handbook for current policy on cheating or plagiarism. Do not ask for the test ahead of time for any reason. The ;points on the test vary from 31 to 98 depending on the unit we have covered.. There will also be extra credit offered this semester Grading 90-100=A 89- 80=B 70- 79=C 69- 60=D Classroom Etiquette Please turn off pagers and cell phones and any other electronic device and place out of sight. Assignment for next week will be test on Chapters 1-5 and materials covered in class. Week of September 13 Start background to the American Revolution. Show last half of video 1776. Assignment: Chapter 6 and 7, Receive tests on Chapters 1-5 Week of September 20 Conclude the background to the American Revolution and start the Revolution. Collect the test for Chapters 1-5. Hand out tests on Chapters 6 and 7 Week of September 27 Cover Critical Period, Constitutional Period. The paper is to be typed (word processed) or in ink if written long hand. 2. Minimum of two pages 3. Minimum of two sources, which may include the internet. No sources no Credit 4. Worth up to 20 points depending on the quality of the report 5. Only two extra credit reports Paper: You may select any topic or area from the Exploration Period through Reconstruction. Select a topic you know little about or one that has interested you for some time and wanted to know more about. If the topic warrants an evaluation, please do so. Example: Did the United States enter the Mexican War because of false or misleading information? Also you may watch the following videos and write a two page summary including your evaluation.
