Description:The North Carolina Arboretum is a 434-acre public garden located within the Bent Creek Experimental Forest of the Pisgah National Forest. The North Carolina Arboretum’s Bonsai Exhibition Garden is a display space which opened October 2005 and houses a rotating subset of the Arboretum's bonsai collection. Because the collection contains traditional as well as innovative work using plants native to the Southern Appalachians, it is considered oneof the most unique collections of bonsai trees in the United States. Our goal is to create a database driven website for the Bonsai Exhibition Garden – one that that is extensible and echoes the aesthetic of the Garden. The Bonsai Exhibition Garden plants are currently stored in an arboretum wide database. The database management system is BG Base, a commercial product used world wide (169 sites / 26 countries). The product is over 20 years old, and works with BG Map, an Autocad GIS application.
