Syllabus and Course Outline Art 124-Photography Fall 2006 – Calisch Monday–Wednesday 1:10 – 4:00 Photography is at once a science and an art...inseparably linked throughout its astonishing rise from a substitute for skill of hand to an independent art form. (Beaumont Newhall, Historian) Photography can be an extra sense, or a reservoir for the senses...Photography can teach people to look, to feel, to remember in a way that they didn't know they could. (Edward H. Land, Inventor) Photography is a language with which a knowledgeable photographer can produce records, reports, essays, diary entries-even poetry. (Ansel Adams, Photographer) The mission of photography is to explain man to man and each man to himself. (Edward Steichen, Photographer) Note: All students must have a 35mm camera with the ability to be used on manual settings. Additional equipment is helpful but strictly optional.
