They are from 5PM to6:30PM (rather than 5-7pm as listed in the Schedule of Classes) on Wednesday evening ofthe 4th and 8th weeks of the quarter. They will cover material from the lectures, the readings,and the discussion sections. Approximately half of the exam will be multiple choice questionsand half will be short answer questions. The final exam is comprehensive and will alsoinclude questions based on the lab exercises.Makeup exams are NOT given. If you are unable to take an examination or have an illness orother emergency, you are responsible for contacting the Life Sciences Core Office (LSBuilding, Room 2305, 825-6614) before the examination. You are required to have writtenverification regarding the illness or emergency. If you feel that a clerical error was made inthe grading of your exam, submit your exam with a typed explanation of the issue to the LifeSciences Core Office by Friday of the week following the exam and your entire exam will beregraded. Late regrades will not be accepted. Please make a photocopy of your exam if yousubmit it as they will not be returned until the final exam.THE LIFE SCIENCES CORE OFFICEFor any administrative problems relating to this course, see Lily Yanez in the Life Sci CoreOffice.DISCUSSION SECTION AND LAB• Discussion sections will alternate with a set of laboratory experiments according to theschedule below. Labs will be held in the second floor labs of Young Hall South. • In the non-lab weeks you will meet in your regular section room (listed in the schedule ofclasses) for discussion of lecture and lab material and the Scientific American articlesfrom the course reader.• During weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8, you will turn in a 2-page paper, worth 10 points, on theScientific American article that is assigned for that week. You will receive morespecific instructions on each writing assignment on the course website. You mustturn in these papers in person during the section they are due or you will lose onepoint. Also, for each additional day they are late you will lose an another point. YourTA will not be allowed to make any exceptions to these rules. Please note that yourlab reports will be due at this same time, so please plan accordingly, trying tocomplete your papers in advance of the due date.• Your written reports for labs 1, 2, and 3 and other lab work must be turned in according tothe schedule announced by your TA, this is generally in section on the weekfollowing the lab.
