Topics to be covered include: electricity and magnetism, electric circuits, special relativity & nuclear physicsTextbook: FUNDAMENTALS OF PHYSICS, 7th EDITION, Halliday-Resnick-Walker (Wiley)Instructional Materials:(Required)(Recommended)Textbook and scientific calculatorSTUDY GUIDE, metric ruler, protractor & bound (lab) notebookEvaluation:- Examinations (70%): Three 1-hour examinations covering course material up to the day of exam.- Laboratory (20%): Details on lab assignments will be covered in separate handouts.- Assigned Homework Problems (10%): Homework will be assigned and collected but not graded. A solutions manual is on reserve at the Cascade Library. Homework assignments will be due on the day announced in class.- Letter grades will be assigned as follows:A = 100 to 90 % B = 89 to 80 % C = 79 to 65 % D = 64 to 55 % F = 54 % or lower- To receive a Pass in the course a grade of C or better must be earned. To receive a Pass/Fail grade the instructor must be notified shortly after first mid-term.Attendance & Make-up Policy:Please notify the instructor by phone if you plan to be absent. With prior notice, arrangements can be made to reschedule exams, answer questions, etc. Note: If you plan on missing an examination, the instructor must be notified at least one week in advance of examination. Any make-up exam without appropriate notice will be subject to a 10% penalty. No exceptions! Students may only make-up 1 exam during the term.
