Students will review the I-V relationships of resistors, capacitors, inductors, sources, op-amps, and transformers. The student will perform circuit analysis using Kirchoff’s laws, node and mesh analysis, superposition, and Thevenin and Norton theorems. The student will also perform DC and AC steady state and impulse analysis for first and second order circuits. Prerequisite: PHYS-111; corequisite: MATH-260. (3 hours lecture, 3 hours lab weekly) Overall Course Objectives Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Use basic test and measurement equipment necessary to evaluate the performance of simple circuits. 2. Demonstrate and understanding of basic functions, inaccuracies, and tolerances of the test equipment, components and procedures. 3. Design circuits with efficient reliability, and cheaply achieve the desired results. 4. Use good techniques for drawing circuits and wiring diagrams, breadboarding circuits, and trouble shooting circuits. 5. Use stimulation tools to design circuits and analyze performance. 6. Demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively with others in the lab to maximize results. Major Topics I. Measurement Equipment II. Asynchronous Counters III. Switching Circuits IV. Adder Circuits V. Encoders and Display VI. Sequence Analyzers VII. Thevenin Equivalent Circuits VIII. Analog to Digital Converters IX. Non-ideal Passive Components X. Rectifier Circuits XI. Transient Response XII.
